Backyard Project

Remember over the summer when Senior and I made the raised beds? Well as great as the idea was, it really did not pan out. Because they sat so high, they stayed incredibly dry, so therefore the things we planted did not do well. The only bumper crop I had was carrots.

I decided yesterday that I would Not watch any of the events on TV today. I have stuck to my word. The Tube as not been on.
It  is also St. Martins Day ( Thanks Pioneer Preppy! ) and the kids were out of school we set out to modify the beds.Of course the child labor did not come cheap. They demanded payment in brownies. We had to shovel out the soil and load it in to wheel barrows. Then knock out the bottom boards. This was so the roots of all the plants would have more room for growing. We piled them into a wheel barrow to be used for the fire pit. But some of them are so nice, that I am thinking of scrubbing them off and finding another project to use them for.

It was a lot of dirt to move, but both kids got in there and worked really hard. Then we cleared the area under the boxes of weeds and grass that was growing. Again, they worked really hard on this part.
Even Mosin got in on the action with us:

And the finished product is this:

We decided to keep the legs on the boxes and just flip them over, because when we have tomatoes planted, the Mockingbirds are notorious for attacking them. So Senior is going to make a sort of tent over them and around them. To keep the birds and Little Mosin out. He seems to like dirt and all things mud.

Then I had to pay the day laborers. As promised Peanut Butter Cup Brownies.  However Senior told them that he would need 60% of the brownies for taxes.
