Beginning Prepping 101 Pt. 3 : Toiletries
I really don't mean to over whelm you all with all these items to stockpile. And in no way am I saying go out today and spend all your money on everything. Buy small quantities at a time, keep them in a closet or on a shelf...pretty soon you will have a months worth, and so on and so on.
Toiletries is a bit of a must have, but something folks don't think a lot of. I am guilty of this myself.
Finally I started buying "girlie" items for the time of the month when my dear Aunt Rosie shows up for her visit. If and When SHTF the earth will still turn, the moon will still have its phases, and the sun will still rise and set..so why should mother nature and her monthly cycles be any different..
and besides, a good stock pile of feminine pads, is also handy in a emergency medical situation. Someone comes to you with a gun shot wound, or deep laceration, Just plug it with a tampon !
Also, when we women have our monthlys, some of us tend to PMS.. Not saying ME of course-every one knows I am a PEACH : )
but keeping a side of Pamperin or Midol might be helpful to the men folk in your group. I feel for the poor UN Soldier who has been sent in to our country, and faces a PMS'n woman behind the trigger of her AR-15.
If you have one near you, the Dollar Tree Stores are an amazing invention. everything is a dollar! On a funny note wanna joke with the cashier of a dollar tree? Tell her something is not marked and ask how much it is- LOL !
In Dollar Trees, you can buy tubes of toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, shampoo, deodorant, and all kinds of things to aid in daily hygiene. Your cleanliness is important, because you don't want to open yourself up to infections. You still plan to eat, and that food will cycle through you and create waste.. Therefore toilet paper is a definite must have on your stockpile list. Again--warehouse clubs. Buy up a few cases at a time and pretty soon you have enough TP to last a year.
What I DON'T recommend buying at Dollar Tree are canned foods.. You can walk across to the local Grocery store and find the generics for less then a dollar.
So again...I hope some of you find this helpful... : )

Good post. I started my preps at 99 cents only. But I soon learned to check the quantity I was paying for...and found that sometimes it wasn't much of a savings. Triple antibiotic cream was my first discovery. There was very little in the tube, and if I compared it with a WalMart tube, the latter was full enough as to be cheaper per ounce than the 99 cent store. Just a thought!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kris. The Dollar Trees are great, but it depends on what you are shopping for. Price and quantity comparison is always important..
DeleteI have only left the house to take my little one to the doctor, twice and once to get more medicine for her fever. I came home from that trip saying "I did a little prepping" I bought some canned chicken, rice, and tampons LOL!!! I don't shop alot but I'm going to stock up each time I go. My husband's job is paying good right now, so our extra funds are going to paying extra on our house payment and food storage!!!
ReplyDeletedoing extra house payments is smart. I hope little one feels better soon. there is a bunch of "gunk" going around every where.
DeleteA little bit as a time is the best way to start. If you have a walmart near you, they sell a brand of canned veggies called "Stone Mountain" they taste much better and are less expensive then the regular generic Great value brand. usually walmart stocks these on the bottom shelf out of eye view of the customer..so keep a check for them. They are only about . 48 a can.
I will hunt for that brand. I was going to buy Best Choice they are .54 a can, but I wasn't sure of the quality!!! My mom cracked up when I told her I'm going to try Spam. I guess her and my step dad used to eat Spam sandwiches soo much they never want to see it again!!!
Deletethe "Double luck" brand at walmart is also good. But overall I perfer the stone mountain. They are the generic version of the "Allen" brand veggies.
DeleteMom Great Post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rob!
DeleteKelly isn't alone, I've never eaten spam! lol I told hubby I was going to buy some and he saw the look on my facing and started cracking up!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you mentioned the stone mountain brand. I have about six Wal-marts and Dollars Tress within ten miles so, you bet I'll visit all of them if need be. :)
Again, thanks!
I know you do.Been to a few of them while down your way. Like I told kelly, also look for the "double luck" brand at wally world. both are usually on the bottom shelf out of direct eye sight. but they are less expensive then even the Great Value Brand.
DeleteSee that's where we are weak on our preparations is with toiletries and the whatnot. I need to get a supply of that stuff too; thanks for the reminder and the idea to go to the Dollar Store for some of them. Thanks!

It might be helpful for new folks coming here if you added a place on your sidebar for these awesome prepping posts. Very good info as always.

DeleteGreat post!
ReplyDeleteLove the new "preppers" shows on tv. also love that avatar of yours.
ReplyDeleteJust checking back for any new posts you may have written.
I’ve been a follower on your blog for a while now and would like to invite you to visit my blog and follow me back. Sorry I took so long for the invitation.
I have visited your blog. and Unfortuantly I am not a fan of those prepper shows on Natgeo. They make us look like a bunch of nut jobs. If I watch it is more for comic relief then anything.
