It is Sunday, got up..made coffee. and Big breakfast for the men in my life. Senior left a bit ago for South Carolina. I started missing him the moment he drove off.
His dad is having an outpatient surgery in the morning, so if its not too much to ask, keep them in your prayers.
Yesterday after I sold the Christmas Tree, we headed to the Navy Commissary to begin purchasing the necessities for Thanksgiving dinner. I bought a medium sized Tom Turkey, and I am also doing a small ham. I am not a big turkey fan It usually ends up getting wasted in our house.
As I am trying to coordinate dinner with the rest, I for once would like some different items for a change. It seems like holiday meals are always a re-run of all the years previous, and its monotonous.
My comments fall on deaf ears. everyone will make the same things they have always made-it is like playing the same bad video over and over. After all, it seems like we were just here, Didn't we just have the holidays?
The sun has finally decided to show up. First time since probably last Tuesday. I forgot what it looked liked and wondered what that bright thing in the sky was. We are even having blue skies.
but the wind is still there and it is still a bit chilly out.
I have much to do around the house before every one starts to arrive on Wednesday. I have the boys quiet and entertained with a STAR WARS movie. We have 4 of them saved on the DVR, and today they are a life saver. My Senior is not here to occupy them..so our baby sitter Master Yoda will. They are in the movie, wearing their little Jedi Capes, and holding light sabers, they are ready to fight for the rebel forces.
So now I must end this post, and start to getting things cleaned up and organized. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday.
God Speed Senior. Healing prayers for Dad and safety for Glock Mom and boys. All asked in our Lords name.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Thanksgiving! I'm making a cake and pies today. They will go into the freezer.
Thanks Mama! I can do cake. But not pies. unless it is a really good pecan one. : )
DeleteYea we like the pecan pie
A prayer said for Senior and his father that everything goes well.
ReplyDeleteI love a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I want it all except pumpkin pie as I am not overly fond of that.
Thanks Beth. I can't do pumpkin pie either. I have never liked it. My brother is making his cream spinich, so that is different this year. : )
DeleteHe'll be fine, dear lady. I just finished building a pot of chili. My turkey awaits in the refrigerator. Give the boys a hug and tell them we love 'em.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephen. The boys have requested Spaghetti tonight. Hugs are done!
DeleteWill say a prayer for the surgery to go well and safe travels for your husband. I know what you mean about menus, sometimes people can get stuck in a rut with wanting to have favorites, but at the same time perhaps wanting to try something new. That's what I liked when we lived away from family and it was just the four of us celebrating most holidays. We could make our own traditions from year to year of what to have and what not to have. But it is always good to get together with family and enjoy the time together!

Thanks Betty. Appreciate it. One of my most favorite holidays was a year after Senior and I were married. October we got Stationed in Groton, CT. By Christmas there was lots of snow, and it was just the two of us. No annoying relatives. No icky food. Just he and I. We had Ham sandwiches that year and chips. I also had a pecan pie around for dessert. We took a drive Christmas day up to Rhode Island.
DeleteThat was probably the best Christmas I have ever had.
I hope everything goes well for Senior and his father. I sent him an email with information in case he needs something while he's up here.
ReplyDeleteI fully sympathize with your holiday food situation. The exact same thing made the exact same way year after year gets pretty boring especially if you're not a fan. I am the one who cooks the food now and my husband's family is very flexible with some concession for my vegetarian FIL, but in the past when I had my family members very opinionated views to cope with I compromised. We'd have the boring things they wanted along with the interesting things I liked. Who knows, the things you like might eventually catch on, or at the very least they'll get used to seeing them and stop complaining as much.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go get my youngest up for school and see if he can remember what he did with my phone charger.
Thanks GG ! I appreciate it.
DeleteMy brother is making creamed spinach, I am looking forward to trying something new.
Hope your holiday goes well.
Creamed spinach can be either very good, or very not good. Hopefully his is good :)
DeleteI have a google document here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1wRCB_bL9huoUnx27QNpz9CX0GcQzkQlQ3xzujcYMBJ8/edit
with this years thanksgiving menu, complete with hotlinked recipes. You're welcome to take a look at it, although some of the recipes are a little pinned together, specifically the turkey recipe because I combined brining and a dry cure, but since you don't like turkey i suspect that wouldn't be one you'd try anyway, although it is very good.
The only one that's original to my family is the orange salad. I would appreciate if anyone who uses them NOT share them with my sister in law, she's been after my recipe collection for years. :>
Oh Lord...I hope his is good. yes when i get a few extra minutes I will check that out..thanks for sharing it. And should I ever run across your SIL, I promise to keep tight lips. : )
DeleteHope Senior has a safe trip. I know you must miss him!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby is working this week, but has Wed and Thursday off.
Our son is out of school all week! I don't have anything
ready for Thanksgiving! I'm off to the grocery store. :)
yes I miss my Man. Funny how that works..they are home getting on your nerves, but when they are gone it stinks!.
DeleteOur school is out starting wednesday. and to answer your question from another post..yes I am 2 hours north of you.
