a quiet sunday

What is it about the solitude of country living? No hussle and bussle of the big cities, or crowded apartments and subdivisions. No hearing everything your neighbors talk about or having cars parked along the street and blocking your driveway...No I don't miss that at all.
 Another benefit is shooting whenever you want to, we have been working on our little range, made some additions and improvements and its all coming along nicely...I am thankful that we no longer have to find a public range to shoot at and can come and go as much as we want on ours...
 This being the last day of our spring break the boys were up early, with BB guns in hand, wanting to get some target practice in. As long as they don't put an eye out they can shoot BBs whenever they like. But, when it comes to their .22s or something of mom and dads...we need to be there with them.
 I made a cup of coffee and sat on the porch watching, and thinking about how carefree they are. Wishing desperately that they did not know of some of the things that are corrupting our world, or the meaning of words that I would have never thought of as a child.

I look at them being so free and smile, but inside I am sad that soon Senior and I will have to turn them loose in this big old world, and I hope we are preparing them well for that day.( sniff sniff..mom gets weepy eyed)

Another good thing about country living and having property?...is getting to have a monster garden. Ours is 99% planted. Only thing left is the okra for Senior and boys. ( ick...i know!...lol )
Jack was being naughty in the house, and so we collectively decided to let him have the great outdoors where I think he is much happier. Today he was helping us out in the garden . He likes coming down there to purr and nuzzle us with his nose. When we pull the hose out, he cracks us up trying to attack it thinking its a big black snake.
Having an out door cat has been an adventure, we look forward to his daily presents he leaves on the porch. Mostly its moles. But Friday he managed a bird. And No, we were not happy because it was a robin.

The day is growing short,  I have noticed several of my favorite bloggers have done posts, so I am off of mine to go check theirs out and say a quick hello. Then its on to answer the demands of the household....you know that dinner thing!  lol

it was a good Christmas

Why is it the holidays without a load of family end up being the best ones? Santa brought the boys remote controlled helicopters. It was no time before ND had his stuck up at the top of  50 foot tree. After Senior lobbed multiple footballs and arrows tied with string, it finally came loose.

Santa brought me this really cool pink camouflage pellet gun. Mainly to have fun shooting with the boys...

 ND had wanted these battleship targets since the summer, so he used alterior motives and got them for his dad as a present

It is a fun shooting game, but with little kids you better bring your patience because with the way they shoot it will take all day..lol

A nice Christmas topped off with some shooting is always a plus in my book.

Today.....

We got the kids off to school, and met up with our good friend DUKE for a truck stop breakfast. Then off to the out door range to do a little cleaning up and some shooting.. Since ole STEPHEN had a itch this week, SENIOR, DUKE and I thought we would get together and scratch it...too bad Stephen wasn't there...that pesky work stuff got in the way..lol

Honestly folks..Can you ever go wrong with a good warm breakfast from a truck stop? 

Recent rains has the ground saturated, so we had to park and walk down,  Senior looked out across the large pasture and yelled "Coyote" ! or was a it deer? It was so far off we couldn't tell, so I grabbed my fancy new camera with the 42x zoom,  It stood still and posed for a pic, Yep!  Coyote: 

 

 

It then scampered in to the woods, Senior and Duke both said they had a ammo round with the coyotes name on it...

 

While the boys worked, I explored with  my camera. I love all things rustic, and love them even more in black and white, some I used the color filter selection..which is kind of cool to have :

Then it was on to the fun stuff..today I shot my Bodyguard 380 and my M&P 22
The boys brought some of their toys and shot as well, mostly hand guns..remember the more you shoot, then more you got to clean...lol

 

My Sisters Patient

My sister is a sweet Godly woman. She has had many health issues in her life, but always keeps smiling and her faith in God helps her through all the pain she faces. She is a hero to me.
To keep active, she volunteers at her neighborhood hospital in the patient services department. There she satisfies her call to help others.

In recent weeks I have had several profound conversations with her on firearms. I have been encouraging her to take up the sport and start shooting. It is a great stress relief and a way to learn defense skills. Besides, there is nothing more empowering to me then shooting.

Her area of town is becoming increasingly bad with an abundance of gang related activities. One Saturday while picking up the boys from my parents, I witnessed just such an incident while approaching a corner stop sign. I carefully unzipped my purse and had my hand on my Glock. This happend a few streets away from both my sisters and parents house. Therefore I stay consistantly worried about my family.

So , today while she is sitting behind her information desk, a female  uniformed officer came in to ask for some basic directions. She has spoken to my sister before and complemented her today on how sweet and loving she is to every one, then asked if she could offer some advice. My sister said "Sure" This  Police officer, told my sister that their town along with the rest of the country is getting out of control. Crime is running wild, and she encouraged my sister to learn some self defense. My Sister told the officer of the conversations she and I have had in the past, and how I have offered to help teach her to shoot. The female officer told my sister that is about the best thing she could do. My sister went on though to explain her fear of firearms. The officer said that she too had once felt the same way, until she entered the academy. "There"she said, "they started us off with small caliber arms until we grew more confident".

 I have told my sister that is what I would do for her if and when she does go shooting with me.
I told her we would start off with a .22 pistol, she said she would buy the ammo. I jokingly said "If you can find it"  she thought I was kidding.   She thought it was just something local, until I told her our brother was in a Cabelas in Idaho, and texted me a picture of the ammo shelves...completely bare.

So, we are setting a range date some time in the next couple of weeks. I am excited over the prospect of sharing with my sister the wealth of knowledge I have inherited from Senior, Stephen, and Duke, and all the rest of my blogging buddies. 

And I promise to keep you all updated on the subject, I am sure I will hit you all up for advice and insight.

Martin Luther King Arrested

Initially when this was reported on our "local stations" website...the headline line read: MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. ARRESTED.  well, you can imagine from that headline how stupid the media looked for trying to stir up a  bit of controversy in regards to the name and the upcoming MLK holiday. Since the first report was posted, they have since changed the title. And again to bring evil to our black rifles, they call is an Assault Rifle..  grrrrrrrr.  
While the parents may have given him the name, they obviously left out the upbringing.

 

Police  have arrested 33-year-old Martin Luther King on a murder charge and two counts of aggravated assault after they said he shot three men last week, killing one.

Andrew Stephens, 36, was initially said to be in life-threatening condition after the Jan. 9 shooting at West 25th Street and Spires Avenue. He died later that day at a hospital, according to a police report obtained Thursday.

Investigators said the victims were playing dominoes in a vacant lot when King drove up, got out of a car with an assault rifle and mask and started shooting.

Police said he opened fired from the opposite side of the street where the three victims were sitting. Of the two others shot, another also suffered life-threatening injuries, and both survived.

Two other homes were struck by the gunfire, police said.

Police said King was looking for payback after someone shot up his wife's grandmother's house on Christmas Day, and he believed one of the men who was wounded was involved.

My day in a Nutshell

Today is probably one of the most news worthy days we have seen in a long time. Obamacare hangs on a thread. I have FOX news on, and awaiting the high courts ruling. If they keep everything else in it, I would at least hope the individual mandate gets struck down. But, I have the feeling they are going to rule against all of it,and the the hot summer we are all ready having is going to really heat up.

Then there is the Holder issue..today is the House vote to find him in contempt...It will be the first time EVER that a sitting AG will be found in contempt..The odds are so stacked against him that even some of the Dems are crossing the lines to vote in favor.  Interesting News Day indeed.....

I am also watching the New out of Colorado..I have friends stationed at Ft. Carson-so far I think they are okay.
It is really bad there and they all need our prayers, One of my favorite personalities: Michelle Malkin lives there and had to evacuate..I feel guilty with all the rain we got, they needed it worse..I hope and pray for the best for the state.

The weather has cleared here, and we are about to get the heatwave the rest of the country has been feeling..near 100  tomorrow...Senior is about a day behind in work due to Debby, so he will be out in it. I think we will head to the store later and get him one of those misty fan things..

Our youngest announced Tuesday that IF he were to have a little sister he wants to name her Debby..lol  I told him that factory shut down 6 years ago and will outsource the job...  :  )   The only sister he will be getting in the future will be the four legged kind...

Jeep needs washing today, I played in all of Debbys puddles too much...so it will be a good day to have the boys help and I squirt them with the hose to cool them off.

My little cucumber sprouts have broken the top of the soil, now I have some babies to tend too...I was so excited. It is a good science lesson for the boys to watch how plants grow. The one box Senior made me withstood all of Debbys rains, and so now I hope he can get to building me another.

I await tomorrow with excitement, the boys are staying at the grandparents, and Senior and I are finally getting some range time. Its been so hard since school has been out, and I am itching to shoot the AK. Plus give my Glock a work out, I feel like I am getting a bit rusty.

Now it is off to do lots of things..laundry, cleaning up the house, planning a good dinner for the family...etc.. and to await the courts ruling..must go pour more coffee...  : )
