ice storm

We saw the brine trucks out on the road early yesterday in preparations for the coming storm. We all hoped for snow, but we got a hard freezing rain instead. I know my friends to the north giggle at my silliness over the winter weather, This is nothing compared to what they have endured. I laugh at my neice who now lives in PA, she wants to know who ticked off "Elsa".  LoL

Senior and I lived in CT for nearly three years, and had some very snowy winters. The boys have only seen snow once, and never have seen the impact of an ice storm. They had a blast, it all  made for a fun day and some good pictures....

Old Glory froze in place:

limbs weighted down by ice:

the back pasture looked like a winter wonderland:

Our little picnic table in the front yard was covered in nearly a half inch of ice:

Wow..the impact of frozen water:

  2. the picnic table is so cool! my son had only seen snow once before now. I took him snow skiing in the Appalachian mountains in NC and he loved it! the kids in our neighborhood were on their sleds yesterday with their dogs running along with him.
    hope you all stay safe!

    1. We were stationed up in CT back in the mid 90s and got our fill of blizzards and such. Last year SC had 7 inches of it so we drove up. That was the 1st the boys saw it. And this was a first for an all out ice storm.. You guys stay warm too. It is getting brutal.

  3. JUGM,

The ice makes all the trees look beautiful however, in most cases the branches break off and some trees die. I'm surprised the boys didn't take a hammer to the table to break off the ice. My son, took a hammer to my truck one time.........the ice was about 1 inch thick, you couldn't open the doors the entire truck was covered. He gently tapped on the ice and large piece fell off.

I know the boys are probably enjoying a couple of days off from school. :-)
Give them a big hug. I hope NW's ear is better.
    Stay warm, and safe.
Sending hugs and love to you and yours.
    Sandy

    1. Yup we had some small trees down and No hammer...but they used some large sticks, and had a blast knocking the ice off everything. The sun started to come out and we were able to knock it off my car pretty easily.
Schools are now on 2 hour delays...I can deal with that. Getting to sleep in..oh yeaaaa!

      Love to you guys too.

  4. Wow it looks so cold. I agree with Sandy, bundle the boys up & give them a hammer. We are supposed to be in the 20's here the next 2 nights. Now, your Mom & Dad will really be cold.

  7. The weather here is for rain tomorrow (Sunday) and warmer temperatures, but then snow and freezing rain again next week, on and off. Looks like you got a lot more ice than we did, only about half an inch on my mountain but much more on surrounding areas. We still have lots of people without power, though things here are Jo To, Ichiban!
