Carpool Chit Chat and Other Tid Bits...

Most of you know, that I will not let our boys ride the school bus. Even though it drops off and picks up in front of our house. And neither does my neighbor 2 doors down from us. So we have devised a car pool. She picks up in the afternoons. Well, one afternoon last week she gets out giggling. Our youngest has entertained the car with talk about criminals.
Youngest: "Ms. M- do criminals live in the city"?
Ms. M : " Yes, some do"
Youngest:: " So democrats must be criminals cause they live in the city" 
Ms.M : Laughter ( thank God her husband is a music minister and they are like minded)

So today is Wednesday, almost to the weekend. I gave the Baby Mama my notice that I can no longer keep the little tyke after October. To say I am thrilled is an understatement. I literally am counting down the days.  She is the same person that hubby got in to a conversation with on food storage. We were treated to dinner one evening at their home, She told hubby she has enough food for 2 weeks, so she showed us her pantry. Yea its filled all right, but with all kinds of sauces, dressings, liquer, etc. She also told us that they have 3 full freezers in the garage.."Okay" hubby says, "but what will you do if power goes out and does not come back on for weeks, months or ever' ? It was stunned silence and after a month and a half since that dinner we still have not gotten an answer
 She hasn't been to the back of my house and seen my shelves yet.  When they pick up little tyke today I am strategically sitting out the 50 # rice bag and sugar by the door we picked up at Costco last night just so I can hear the big daddys reaction.He has a PHD and has the answer to everything.  After that we will seal it all up in mylar bags.
We got in our Red Feather canned butter. Next on the order agenda is canned cheese.

Tonight I am cooking a marvelous dinner for the family, fresh ham steaks, home made mac and cheese and maybe a peach cobbler.  Yum!  : )

More about Girls and Guns...

Let’s admit it. Nothing is more empowering to a woman then going to the range and shredding some paper or, blowing the guts out of a perfectly good squash. When I first got my Taurus Judge, I couldn’t wait to shoot something.  I went to the produce counter and got spaghetti squash the next day I was at the range with some friends having a great time. And I like to try my best to encourage women to shoot.

A lot of us though are reluctant. We have a general fear of guns. I remember back to my very first time holding a gun, and I would close my eyes and try to pull the trigger. I, like most women I was terrified of the recoil and the noise.

I took baby steps for everything. Hubby let me start using his Marlin .22 that was a lot of fun plinking away at the target. So if you want to start going to the range, pick up a little .22 Most are lightweight and very little recoil. Ease yourself in to the sport and build up your confidence. Once you get the hang of the .22 then you can graduate to something a bit bigger with more stopping power.

If it’s for home defense then a .22 won’t cut it. You need at least a 380 ACP or larger. And then you have the choice of revolver vs. semi auto. I prefer the semi. And then there is always the brand and price. Just because something is flashy and expensive doesn’t mean it’s the best on the market. And the gun manufacturers are out there promoting everything to help women ease in to shooting, from the grips, to the color. They know we are their fastest growing base of consumers and they know that most of us girls control the check book.

Also most of your local ranges have classes specifically designed for women, and taught by women instructors. Most of us are first instructed by our dads, boyfriends or husbands. Sometimes that is good, but sometimes it can be bad. Hubby helps me out a lot, but he also knew that a friend can also be helpful and some of my best instruction came from none other then Stephen. (And no below is NOT a pic of Stephen and I)

 I also learned my aggressive stance from actually watching “Top Shots” An aggressive shooting stance tells the bad guy that you mean business and you’re not just a pretty face with a gun. It shows them that your one bad $%#@ with a weapon and you know how to use it.  So go treat yourself to a day at the range, you never know you might be a better shot then your hubby!  : )   I think my next topic will be about us girls and our rifles...

Sunday Ramblings....

Its been  a bit of a lazy weekend for us. Hubby set off yesterday with friends, then came home earlier then I expected. The boys and I took off during his absence to visit my ailing father, then I have to leave thier house after a short stay because I can not stand the condition of it, nor can I stand the fact that my parents are "sitting ducks".

This morning I got up and made breakfast, our youngest has a sore throat and sounds like he swallowed a frog, hence we have nicknamed him "Froggy".  Hubby and I will be doing some light yard work today. We have a area of dead grass around our mailbox and we will be putting in a mulch bed. I have added numerous Mums around my gardens and they are looking awesome. I love the colors of fall. The boys are going to be vampires for Halloween this year. I bought the costumes last year on clearance for .70 each. I love thier excitement over dressing up, they love Halloween and I love decorating with pumpkins.

I am disturbed this morning with some of the news headlines I woke up to. Obama is calling for a black march on Washingon to promote his jobs plan, and the actor Morgan Freeman is running his mouth again. I was pleased to see that Hermain Cain "Called Out" Morgan Freeman about his remarks.  I really do Like Mr. Cain, and wish he and Newt Gingrich was doing better in the poles. Okay so one more cup of coffee before we head out in to the yard.

Growing Trend of Urban Survivalist

At the beginning of the month SciFi Chick reminded us all over on her blog that September is Emergency Preparedness month. I have been giving this a lot of thought over the past couple of weeks.I remember Sean Hannity doing a story on it  And I was happy to find the  Youtube video . Not every one lives on acreage and can have a getaway to bug out too. So this guy Anton Edwards has started urban survivalist clinics in NYC-he has the right mindset.  Who I don’t like is Marc Seigal and his thinking that being prepared is just a “Notion”.

There is impending cutbacks coming to FEMA- heck they may run out of money by next Tuesday. The government is simply not going to be there to bail people out. We have to take the bull by the horns and take control. Do you want to be the one standing in a long line waiting for a cup of soup? I have done that only it was for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and a bag of ice. It’s no fun. And what was bad, was that line was suppose to be for those residents in the specific neighborhood that was hit. We had people in that line from a county over—and why? Because it was something for FREE. I couldn’t stand waiting any longer so I left. I think that was the turning point for me, and it is a memory I can reflect on, to not be that person anymore expecting the Federal Government to help me out during a crisis situation.

I saw this picture on drudge this morning. Moochelle is at a dnc fundraiser with her mac daddy. She doesnt want him hugging her too closely either so he won't mess up her dress or God Forbid he causes her to lose on of the $42,000 diamond cuff bracelets she is wearing...

How many people are out of work in this country? How many good folks out there are having to rob Peter to pay Paul?  So many Americans are going to desperate measures to afford the basic neccessities of life.  When he speaks of " The Rich paying their fair share" does he also mean himself? I have said it time and time again since he was elected..He only ran for the "Perks" of the office..she is another Marie Antionette and He is Lois the XVI. And we all know how that story turned out......

Back from Seeing Mickey...

Well I am back after a long weekend at the “House of Mouse” (aka Disney World) actually we got back on Sunday, but I have been so dang busy with household chores, business work and taking care of this little one that I have not had time to get on an blog.

Disney was great, but as always Over Priced. The kids had a great time. We camped at Fort Wilderness. If you have not stayed there I highly recommend it. It is very nice, clean, and lots of amenities. The pool is heated and has a kiddy water park on the side. In the evenings you can have a marshmallow roast and campfire with Chip and Dale. That is free of course, but they get you when they charge for the marshmallows and even the sticks to roast them on! And then there is the liberal aspects of Disney that creep in on you...like when we ordered lunch, instead of fries and soda for the kids, the choices were fruit, juice box, white milk, or carrot sticks. And not to mention some of the male dancers, our youngest met Peter Pan, and I was really wondering what could have come out of his mouth, but he minded himself and only said how "Silly" Peter acted...   : )

I even took tons of pictures, however somehow I accidentally deleted them off my digital camera and I have tried every way in this world to recover them. Now I am being told they are corrupted, so if anyone can help me with this I would really appreciate it.  

It was nice to get away for a few days, but now it is back to reality…….

The Dems Lost a Seat

Incase you havent heard, the Democrats lost the seat from the 9th congressional district in New York, this was the seat vacated by the disgraced Anthony Weiner and a seat that was a democratic stronghold and had NEVER sent a Republican candidate to congress.

While the White House may wish to blow this off and say it is irrelevant. It is a major upset for the party. This congressional district was 40 % Jewish. The democrat candidate was a Orthodox Jew, they chose to vote in a Catholic Republican. But with the vulnerable economy and Obamas stance on Israel any democrat candidate is going to have this administration as a monkey on their back.

The Bradys Visit the White House.

 Not long ago and not heard in the Mainstream media was a special visit to the White House by Jim and Sarah Brady—yes the Brady Bill people. Apparently BO has promised the Brady’s that he is working “under the radar” on new Gun control measures.

Everyone by now knows about the small arms treaty the U.N is working on. This is what Obama means by “under the radar” he is letting the U.N do his dirty work. The measure should be ready by July 2012 and sent to the White House for ratification.

However we Americans aren’t that naïve and know that you need a 2/3 vote in the Senate for it to pass. And I am happy to say that 58 Senators, Republican and Democrat a like have called Obama out on this measure. And they have collectively vowed to oppose this.

What is ironic is the U.S all ready has  military arm sales  regulations, all that needs to be done is the rest of the world follow suit and adopt it. But rather then harmonize other nations the diplomatic crowd would rather force Washington to adopt its utopian vision of a global disarmament.

However with 45 Republicans and 13 Democrats against this measure, I am sure Obama and the U.N will be in for a long fight. I just hope he doesn’t get re-elected in 2012. If he is given a second term, then I am positive the first thing on his agenda will be gun control. And as we all know, any gun control legislation only hurts those of us who are abiding by the laws.

Edible Wild Plants

So you’re stuck out in the woods for one reason or another. And you are now in a survival situation.  You have a small bottle of water, maybe a few protein bars or some trail mix. But when that runs out, what will you eat?  The majority of people don’t know what plants are edible and what’s not. And any out doors person should know how the rhymes go: “ Leaves of three let it be”  “If a berry is white, run in fright” . It was only after watching “Man, Woman, Wild” that I knew you could boil down pine or spruce needles to make a tea. I had heard that you can also eat marigolds, but other then that I admit. I was clueless as well.  

Then I researched the topic and found that the wilderness provides. The Native Americans have been foraging for centuries, so if they could do it, then we could too.

Cattails- An aquatic plant, can be roasted or eaten raw. You can also take the fibery portions and start a fire with it.

Juneberry- or more commonly “service berry” and as long as a berry as a crown on the end of it, it’s safe to eat, as there have none found poisonous with crowns. They are a purple fruit that can be eaten fresh or dried.

Nut Grass- or “nutsedge” Its found world wide but common in the summer, fall and winter usually found in open areas, or along riverbanks.  Most of us usually have it growing through out our yards…little did I know that the small hard like tubers can be eaten. Taste bitter, but has a high nutritional value, and can treat cough and colds.

 The Swamp Cabbage-this is actually a southern delicacy. It’s very useful and full of nutrition, but only works if you have sable palms around. It wasn’t until I started researching it that I found tons of recipes for it. It’s really good boiled or cooked in to fritters.

So there you have it, a few edible wild plants that I have found that you can survive on if you are ever put in that situation. .

BO Ad-Libed and Got it Wrong.

Did you know that in Presbos job speech he made a major gaffe? Probably not, in fact PBS edited the gaffe out when airing the replay By all means let’s not make the President look ignorant.

Presbo said that Abraham Lincoln founded the Republican Party, which is not true. The party was founded in 1854, Lincoln joined in 1856. And the first Republican convention was held in Wisconsin in 1854.

Also but not surprising is that BO gaffed that Lincoln started the first land grant colleges. Each state is in charge of its own educational institutions and most of the states entering the union after 1815 had designated state universities, with grants of land, in their state constitutions.  That is the reason that major state universities are near the geographic center of their respective states, and not located in the major urban areas.

But PBS has elected to delete this from the transcripts, because they do not want to make BO look bad. Can you imagine if this had been a Republican President? When it comes to this president, the media lost all credibility and he can do no wrong. To quote Sean Hannity “The modern media died during the 2008 election cycle”

Since PBS edited the transcript they are now laying blame on the White House in a Editors Note they said:
 “The original transcript provided on this page, as was noted, reflected the president's remarks as prepared for delivery and released by the White House. This transcript has been updated to reflect the remarks as delivered and released by the White House." 


However, I have learned through my online searching, that this gaffe wasn’t even in his original speech- BO Ad-libed “The founder of the Republican Party” statement…. And then he gets it wrong…

Kids Gun Buy Back

In getting our weekly NRA update email. The “Outrage of the Week” isn’t just an outrage, but seems completely nuts. It’s from Buffalo, NY. And, it is about a group called: “Fathers Armed Together to Help, Educate and Restore” aka “FATHERS”

The Fathers group had a kid’s gun buy back day. They handed out pizzas, dress shirts, and various school supplies to kids who turned in their water pistols and nerf guns-yes that is right a gun buy back for toy guns.

The reasoning behind it was to indoctrinate kids at a young age that guns are bad, and should be avoided and thus crime would surely stop.

So after being outraged by the update, I did a search on the subject and came across the news article on it at the Buffalo news website. http://www.buffalonews.com/city/communities/east-side/article546659.ece

I agree with one of the people who commented, she said “What about all the violent video games, and what about the classic cartoons where characters  were constantly getting blown up?”  I also believe that if these Fathers want to have a gun buy back, then they also need to have a baseball bat, kitchen knife, automobile, power tool, beer bottle, and just about every other household item  “Buy Back” because its obvious these Einstein’s haven’t  realized that anything can be used as weapon.  So yes let’s indoctrinate our young to fear the little evil black rifle, and let’s turn our country over to where only the government can have a gun.

He's Only 5 !

My week has been on the stressfull side. First my dad has been in the hospital since Monday, and if you ever want good "kid themed" material to write about, take your kids to the hospital,  however that is saved for another day..

This morning, things are hectic before going to school. Trying to get breakfast done, teethed brushed, and boys dressed, I hardly have time to sip my coffee. I also babysit our neighbors 10 month old. The dad dropped him off about 20 minutes early- Gee thanks! as if I wasn't stressed enough. Here I am answering the door in my nighty.
Flash forward about 30 minutes, everyone is dressed, I can finally drink my morning java, my boys are playing in the dinning room, and hubby walks through to go out the door....it is then that we here it --our youngest is playing pretend with his transformers.."Thundercracker your a P-----" (you can feel free to use your imagination and fill it in).. then he says it again. Hubby stopped dead in his tracks, and I about spit out my coffee....  NOOOOO  please tell me he didn't say that twice?  I felt like the mother from "A Christmas Story"  Hubby immediatly demanded to know where he could have heard such a word, "i dont know" then he starts to cry and runs to his room after daddy swats his fanny. I go find him, and explained things to him, and then he says: " well so and so says it all the time at school"  
"My Lord, you are only 5! kindergartners arent suppose to be talking this way"..   Now all morning, I am thinking..."what do I do and does a 5 year old really know what he is saying and that its a bad word" ?
On the way to school we talked about what he said, and I told him that he needs to tell his teacher when other kids are saying bad words, and that those kids will one day get you in to trouble. It was a good lesson in the choices we make. But still I am mortified that kids this young are talking that way....

Stop the Press! Pelosi's Ticked....

Apparantly the former house speaker is a bit peeved that not only are some Republicans skipping Presbos speech tomorrow night, but also are not giving a rebuttal afterwards.  She says its not fair to the American people. Speaker Boehner is basically saying..that there will not be very much to respond too. (Which i find to be comical). It is not hard to understand that tomorrow night is the start of the NFL season, love it or hate it. Its an American pass time and the hard working class people don't like it being interrupted by BO talking to us about how he plans to create more jobs-Americans want to enjoy their beer and hotdogs and be left alone to watch the Packers and the Saints. So I say "KUDOS" to the GOP for not giving a rebuttal and taking up more airtime-And let us get on with the game.

What is not fair to the American people is getting another stimulus possibly thrown at us when the first one clearly did not work. The estimate  his job plan would cost around 300 billion ,  but add up more to like 4-500 billion. And its going to extend unemployment benefits. Believe it or not there are jobs out there and companys are hiring, its not just the jobs anyone wants or they don't want to settle for 10.00 an hour when they have been making 15 or 20.00 an hour. So if someone is making money being on umemployement why should they go to work? I know someone who is doing this exact thing, because she lost her  high paying fancy job, and can't find one that pays the same. She chooses to stay unemployed so she can sleep all day, be lazy and still get a check.,  we are all  paying her way to do so. I fully believe that extending unemployment benefits, is only "enabling" these individuals, keep them dependent on the government so BO can get the vote in 2012-Nothing like buying votes....

And while I am on a soapbox- I am really tired of hearing about infrastructure jobs...Government doesnt not create Jobs, they create work. What happens when those highway jobs run out?

Space Junk....

Hubby and I like to sit outside on Friday and Saturday nights. We have nice fire pit built in to our back patio. Its nice to relax and reflect after the kids go to bed and enjoy watching the flames dance. Once thing I love to do is watch the night sky. It simply amazes me. While I do not have a telescope, I use binoculars to catch a glimpse of anything celestial. And I admit, I do not know one constellation from the other, they all look the same to me. I do keep hoping that maybe this Christmas Santa will bring a really nice telescope, one that I can plug in to the computer and download info.

Friday night while hanging out on the back patio, I noticed high level lights streaking across the sky. No, it was not meteors; these were small and fast like they were on a course for somewhere. Then we assumed it was the International Space Station. We do see it quite a bit where we live. But it kept happening.

Then Hubby suggested “Space Junk” which got me thinking: Just how cluttered is space?

I remember when the Shuttle was once hit in the windshield by junk, and a few weeks back I was outside and saw a bright flame shoot from the sky then died out, could that have been a piece of trash falling to earth?

So then I researched it, and apparently space is just as trashed as I expected it to be, from old satellites, to things astronauts have left floating. No wonder we are on a constant barrage from trash falling to earth.  So next time you are outside on a dark and starry night, watch the night sky, and you too might see a piece of space junk go zooming by.

Ohhhh Pickles!.... Part 2

let me start out today by wishing everyone a HAPPY LABOR DAY........

Okay so In July when we canned, 25 jars of pickles. It was my very first time doing it. I was nervous about how they would taste. I thought I had the wrong sort of cucumbers and they would turn out awful. Arsenius told me he hoped they wouldn’t have dirt in them like the store bought kind, and Stephen told me they would turn out fine not to worry.

Well, the four weeks of letting them sit and soak in the brine has passed and we opened them. I was afraid they would be so terrible that I would have to throw them all away. However, our youngest is a pickle fiend I figured if they passed his test then they were good to go:

And to add to this story, my neighbor loves pickles as well, when I told her i made some she begged to try them...she loved them so much she has come back for a full jar..  I made the spears and circles, and the spears are much better. The circles came out soggy and seems more vinegarie then the spears...

2-liter bottle storage

Happy Sunday Everyone!  I am so Thankful for another day to write you to you good people.

Last night we decided to follow the lead of a woman that was recently shown on the NatGeo special about “preppers”. This particular lady was an urban prepper some where out in either Arizona or New Mexico. She was doing a lot of good things, but the only problem I had with her ideas was she had no real bug out plan. However, putting that aside; she turned us on to some inexpensive dry storage techniques. One of which is a 2-liter bottle. I have  never thought to use them, they make a light weight way to transport your dried goods, normally we use mylar bags or gallon sized mason jars.  Rinse the bottles out and let them dry thoroughly.

Boys Imaginations....

As I am sitting here thinking of something to blog about today, I am hearing our Two boys in the kitchen playing with their toy soldiers.

Let it be known that our youngest, repeats EVERYTHING he hears. So Hubby and I do have to be careful what we say, and I guess after hearing the following conversation, I need to be a bit more cautious:

Older one: “let’s line up our soldiers and shoot their guns”

Younger one: “Okay, let’s clean the city out of democrats”

Older one: “oh no the democrats are taking over”

Younger one: “Some democrats just killed the autobots”!

Older one: “Then we need to get more army guys to get the democrats”

Younger One: "lets get those bad democrats and put em in jail for killing autobots! BAM BAM BAM!!!..

So I leave the computer to go see their battle, and they have every possible soldier and transformer they own lined up in attack formation….  Gotta love kids and their imaginations!

5 NASCAR Drivers Decline White House Invite

I love reading a article and seeing the Liberal spin on it. Today on Drudge I saw where 5 NASCAR drivers declined the White House offer to meet the anointed one. So I clicked on it. And immediately the website put a radical spin on it. Saying that: " This is the President of the United States after all".

 It is nearing the end of the season, and they are extremely busy people, with all the travel and sponsor smoozing they have to do-they hardly have time to see their families, much less POTUS.   However, perhaps they have different political views, and do not want to be seen in a picture with the worst President in American History. I think one of their lasting legacies will be in addition to all their wins and championships, is that they stood their ground and didn’t say “How High” when the White House said “Jump”. Scheduling conflict or not, it is still a mark on Obama that not every one drop what they are doing when he summons them.

And one last note: I was VERY happy to see that two of my favorite drivers; Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick, were among the five drivers that declined.

Our Other Ruger...

As long as I was talking about my converted Ruger yesterday, I feel like I should have some pics of this one, the most loyal Ruger of them all :

He is a lot like the 10/22 in that he sleeps about 22 hours a day, he eats about 22 pounds of food, and when he was born, he was so big I swear he all ready weighed 22 pounds!

And like a Ruger 10/22 he likes finding his favorite targets, in this case our two new kittens Jasper and Jack.

Government Junkets Exposed!

I came across this website from a Facebook friend. It is dedicated to revealing government travel expenditures. And like the author says, in a time of financial crisis, and families having to budget down to the last cent. How can our elected officials justify spending 14 billion a year on travel expenses. I know right now in my family we have to save up for a short weekend vacation to Disney World, and if any one has been there recently, those tickets aren’t cheap. It’s too bad we can’t take our family to some of these destinations, like our government officials are.
