This Ain't Your Grandpas Ole .22

My .22 of choice is the Ruger 10/22.  I first bought one for my hubby because it was getting expensive shooting our AR-15s at the range. So we wanted to get something that was reliable and accurate, that we could still practice with but not spend all our .223 ammo. I remember buying his, and the gun salesman telling me about all the “add-ons” you can accessorize with. My eyes then lit up- I felt like Paris Hilton shopping in Tiffany’s.

A couple of months later I was back to buy mine. I had the wooden stock, and nice scope. But it was missing something. One day while flipping through hubby’s “Shotgun News” it lept off the page at me, in black and red-it was the Archangel Conversion kit. I showed it to hubby, batted my eyes and smiled a lot. He caved in and I got it.  The Archangel has a free floating hand guard and a picatinny rail on top and bottom. It even came with a bayonet, but it was really cheesy so we didn’t put it on. There are three styles of this conversion on the market, Mine is the Ruger 10/22 ARS standard conversion kit. For Ruger pistols they have the "Promag AA56P" ,and  more recently the "Ruger 10/22 Archangle Maurader Conversion stock black polymer AAM1022"  All three are awesome in their own right and I reccommend this conversion to any with a Ruger firearm.

And here he is the before and after pictures, and all decked out with his archangel kit. I think I like it so much because it looks so "pumped up" and exudes confidence in the shooter. When I shoot it, I feel like "Trinity" from the "Matrix". It's just plain fun.

I'm disgusted!

As a mother I have to air my disgust. In a matter of a week, we have had incidents with our local police. One was involved in a DUI incident where he was driving his patrol car home after a night of drinking and crashed head on in to another vehicle. The second is an officer who was arrested and in jail for sex crimes against minors. How can I tell my children to trust police if they are doing this? I tell my kids that if they are lost go find a policeman and give them mommy and daddy’s phone number. Now, it’s getting to the point that we as parents can’t do that any more. The people that are supposed to help protect our kids are the ones we as parents now need to be protecting them against.

Now I know why as a parent, I am there 24/ 7 for my children. I now know why I will not let them out to ride their bikes alone, or why I take them and pick them up from school. Some of my neighbors’ questions why I don’t let them ride the bus especially when it picks up and drops off right on our corner. It’s because of cases like these.  What is a better rouse then being a cop and having that ability to easily lure kids in to your patrol car?  

I understand and know that in every group there are bad apples. But it is getting more common place with our law enforcement officers, school teachers and preachers. I remember back when our kids were smaller and we were looking at daycares incase I decided to go back to work. I would not go in to one if there was a man working there. I would have never trusted that.

 I do honestly lay a lot of the blame on social media sites; the internet has made it so easy to lure kids. And again it comes down to parental controls and knowing what your kids are doing, who they talk to, and who their friends and friends’ parents are.  

Rest Easy-Obamas in Charge!

The Mid-Atlantic states and New England can all breath a sigh of relief as POTUS has taken charge of the Hurricane situation. He even managed a conference call with the VP and others from homeland security.   You don't think  being down in the polls has anything to do with it do you ? What is that line that Biden said " don't let a good disaster go to waste?"
And  speaking of  Biden he apparantly was out on the  golf course hours before it hit the Washington Area. Wasn't it Condeleeza Rice who was highly criticized for going shopping during Hurricane Katrina ?

He also got hourly updates from Governors, I can imagine the call between Obama and Chris Christie...Christie being so blunt and to the point as he is:
Obama: Governor Christie what is the situation in New Jersey"?
Christie: "Mr. President, ummm like everywhere else , its @#$^ Windy and Wet"

What to say, what to say.......

I've been sitting here all morning trying to think of things to blog about today. Sometimes I don't write because I have no idea what to say.  I think sometimes its because there is so much going on in our world that the topics are just too overwhelming.
I mean who would've  thought that the Mid Atlantic would have gotten a earthquake and now a hurricane within a week of each other. I am wondering who ticked off God up there. People are saying its the sign of the times and I am beginning to wonder myself  , because things are better at school with El Principle and even Bob the Liberal as started to wave to me- I mean BTL waving to me ? are you serious?
Irene passed us by  and all we got was a few down pours and in her wake she has left us this weekend with the prospect of record high temps-Thanks Irene! It is like Africa hot outside right now.
 My brother is up in Mass. and while he is "like minded" the boy is living in his RV. I can only hope he will spend the weekend at the hospital where he works or go get a motel room somewhere.
Hopefully we can sqeeze in a trip to costco this weekend. Hubby has some landscaping work to get started on, and I am working on balancing the companys check book. Oh yea!!!!    clothes are done in the washer time to hang them up and let this heat work for me.

Bacon, Coffee and the Morning Headlines....

It is Sunday, Praising God with the start of a new week, and new adventures.
My family is starting to stir, I have one with a stopped up nose,Go figure- first week back at school and I all ready have a sick baby,  the other wants to be sick so he can take medicine too..Such jealousy with these two. And hubby is still crashed out in bed, Probably exhausted from his Saturday escapades.

And me, I have coffee brewing, and going to cook up some fresh bacon from a pig we had processed in April. Yum! I can't wait to mix it all up with some grits and eggs. Once breakfast is over then its time to think about what to do for dinner...I am thinking on some good burgers, with my canned pickles, and maybe a peach cobbler for dessert.  : )

This mornings headlines are giving me a headache:
Florida needs to be on the look out for this new Storm...(so we better check through our supplies, might even go pick up another generator)
Libyan Rebels are close to closing in Tripoli, so there goes gas prices again!...
Joe Bidden tells China that the U.S will never default on its debt...( Yeah Right! ).
Some new Rapper is calling for a Flash Mob in Cleveland, Ohio.....
And of course: Obama is on Vacation...  a long time ago, there was this thing called the "French Revolution" Marie Antoinette told everyone to "Eat Cake" why do I see that playing out here again?  There are so many people suffering in this country right now from the politics of his administration..its enough to make a person so "GRRRRRRR"

Okay, enough with that it is Sunday after all. Coffee is ready and porky pig is defrosted...time to go cook for my family. Maybe a trip to Costco later.  Have a Happy and Blessed Sunday Everyone!

California Cops Teaching Kids Gun Safety

I just read this very interesting article over on FOX news about a California swat team getting ‘flack” because they allowed children to hold and look at their automatic weapons.  I say “Lucky Kids” wish I could hold one.  The best part I find is that this police event happend in the ultra liberal state of CA.

Of course the liberal California politicians are outraged by this. But they are missing the mark, the event was meant to teach kids gun safety at an early age.

I thought the comments of some old lady with the last name Holtz were amusing ,(She’s the old lady in the photo with the sun hat on) if she only knew my family, where our Six year old has his own gun. What would she say to that?

I had an unforgettable day yesterday and wanted to share it with you. I
know we've all sat around and discussed in detail why we do what we do and
if we will be willing to continue to do what we do day in and day out
regardless of deployments, retirement decisions, job opportunities, missed
birthdays, missed holidays, etc. This is something I wanted to share and
you were the people that came to mind. It's another reason I continue to
serve. I guess because many others do and sacrifice a lot more, some even
their lives.
My crew was alerted yesterday to find that our mission had changed. We
were now a backup to a high priority mission originating from Afghanistan.
When I asked where we would be going the answer was "back to the states".
Later I learned our destination was Dover.
I was the aircraft commander for one of two C-17s that transferred the
Chinook helicopter crash soldiers back home. The crew that started this
mission in Afghanistan would end up running out of crew duty day and need
another crew to continue the soldier's journey. We just happened to be
available. After being alerted and going through our normal sequence, I
found myself at the foot of the aircraft steps.
Before I took my first step upward I noticed a transfer case close to the
door. I had only seen one in pictures. The American Flag was tucked
smartly, folded and secured on top. I paused at the bottom of the stairs,
took a deep breath and continued up with my mind and eyes focusing on making
it to the next ladder leading to the cockpit. However, as I entered, I
couldn't help but notice the remaining nineteen transfer cases in the cargo
compartment. The entire cargo compartment was filled with identical
transfer cases with American Flags. I made my way up to the cockpit and
received a briefing from the previous aircraft commander. After the
briefing we exchanged a handshake and the other pilot was on his way.
I felt a need to ensure the crew focused on their normal duties. I
instructed the other two pilots to began the preflight. I went back down
into the cargo compartment to see what needed to be done and find the
paperwork I needed to sign. The cargo compartment was now filled with
numerous people from the mortuary affairs squadron. They were busy
adjusting, resetting and overall preparing the cases for their continued
flight. Before they began I asked who was in charge because I knew there
was paperwork I needed to sign. I finally found a Staff Sergeant who was
working an issue with the paperwork. After it was complete, he brought it
up to the cockpit for me to review and sign.
There are moments in life I will never forget. For me, it's the days my son
and daughter were born. Another occurred five months ago when I had to
deliver the unthinkable news to a mother that her son was killed in
Afghanistan and although I didn't anticipate another day like that this
soon, yesterday was another. I looked at the paperwork I was signing and
realized the magnitude of the day. I glanced over the paperwork and signed.
In a way, I felt I had taken ownership of these fallen soldiers. It was now
my duty to ensure they make it home.
After confirming the preflight was complete and the aircraft was fueled, I
went outside to start my walk-around. As I walked down the steps, a bus had
parked in front of the aircraft and unloaded eleven passengers. The
passengers were fellow SEAL team members who were escorting the fallen back
to the states. I stood at the front of the aircraft and watched them board.
Every one of them walked off the bus with focus in their eyes and
determination in their steps; just as I imagine they do when they go on a
mission. I made eye contact with the lead SEAL, nodded my head in respect
and he nodded back.
Finishing my walk-around, I stopped at the bottom of the stairs. I looked
up into the cargo compartment; two American Flags and one SEAL Team Six flag
hung from the top of the cargo compartment. Three of twenty transfer cases
visible; one with an American Flag and two with Afghan flags. I looked up
at my aircraft and saw, "United States Air Force" painted on the side and I
stood trying to take it all in. I wanted to make certain that I never
forget these images. That I never forget the faces of the SEALS, the smell
of the cargo compartment or the sun slowly rising over the landscape. It's
important that I don't forget. We need to honor the dead, honor the
sacrifice of the fallen.
I understand my role in getting these fallen soldiers home is insignificant
compared to the lives they lived and the things they did for our country.
Most of it we will never know. All I know is every American should see what
I've seen. Every American should see the bus loads of families as they exit
the freeway headed for Dover AFB to reunite with their fallen or witness the
amount of time, effort, people and equipment that go into ensuring our
fallen have a honorable return.
The very next day we took the same aircraft back overseas. We had leveled
the aircraft at our cruise altitude and I walked down to the cargo
compartment. No more American Flags hung from the ceiling. All the
transfer cases were gone.
Instead I watched a father lay with his son, cradled on his chest, on the
same spot that only yesterday held a fallen soldier. I watched a young
girl, clutching a teddy bear, sleeping quietly where the fallen had laid. I
realized so many Americans have no idea where the fallen lay.
I'm honored to be one that does.

Worth Sharing.....

Today, the government has stolen your shovel, taxed your asses, raised the price of Camels and mortgaged the Promised Land to China.

School Policies....yikes!

Our kids started back to school yesterday. The schools principal initiated changes that have upset the parents. No longer can we “walk up” to the school when the bell rings to get our little ones. We have to be in a car. So traffic was a nightmare, and some parents had to wait for up to 2 hours to get their kids. The line was so long that it stretched out on to a U.S Highway and was backing up the normal flow of traffic.

Other parents took it upon themselves to walk up anyways. And were turned back and told they could not take their kids unless they were in a car. This angered many people. How dare they tell parents they can not get their children!  I mean who do these people think they are?

With the flow of traffic not moving, and the gas gage dwindling as I ran the A/C I took it upon myself to park and walk, one way or the other I was getting my children.

The scene at the school was nothing short of utter chaos. I waited patiently at a gate, maintained my rage, and my children were allowed to leave with me. Other parents followed suit. Who said there is no strength in numbers….

Once home I called the Superintendents office. And launched a formal complaint, he as well could not understand the change or:” What the principal is thinking” I was promised a phone call back to day with an update, it is now mid-day and no call.

I do understand in every situation that there are “kinks” that need to be worked out. I know that in a few weeks the traffic will probably die down as more parents allow their kids to ride the bus. But it’s the simple fact that the school should not dictate to parents how and when we choose to pick up our kids, God knows we all ready have too much government involvement in our lives, we don't need any more.

Not All Canned Meats Are Created Equal......

In our attempts to find new and exciting foods to add to our stored goods, we came across canned sausage.."Yummy" we thought, the picture on the label sure looked good. So before we buy a large quantity of something new we like to try it first.  All I can say is "Ick" 

As you can see, it might resemble sausage, but the consistency was very watery, and smelled horrible.And to quote  our 5 year old who said : " That's Disgusting!" ...The fact that "Cereal Added" should have sent up a red flag to me...It was not the way sausage should smell, I know its a canned meat and all, but I think it was about 95% lard and 5 % some sort of mystery meat by product-  I am sure we could make a better canned sausage with a DAK ham and a pack of taco seasoning...

Anyone got some good suggestions for canned meats?

Thank You Feds....

Thank You Federal Reserve for  deciding to keep interest rates at near zero percent for the next 2 years, causing a reversal in the steep fall of oil prices. This not only effects us and families every where. But it also effects us as a small business owner. So Thanks Ben Bernanke! I really appreciate it.  
And I see today that stocks on the European market are falling on concerns that France will be the next  economy to go. So it is creating a ripple effect for us today and  currently our market has dropped over 400 points.

Oh and sorry,  but I find it amusing that in this panel of 12 for this super debt committee that Harry Reid appointed of all people: John Kerry...  ha ha ha.  Why do they need  12 more Washington bureaucrats to figure out how to save money, What they need to  do is find 12 everyday American citizens from all walks of life that have to keep a monthly balanced budget and live within their means to figure this all out for them. But for me the answer is easy: Cut Entitlements.

And in my household news....the boys got their fish tank...  : )

Thoughts on Home Schooling....

Next Monday our two boys start school. I am terrified. We will have a first grader and a kindergartner, not so much worried about the first grader as I am the kindergartner and yes at a public school, which makes my fears all that more multiplied. However more and more hubby and I are considering home schooling. Private school is just way too costly unless, by some stroke of luck we hit the lottery or inherit a vast fortune from some unknown relative. And there really aren’t that many around us anyways. So private school “pickings” are slim.

So, that leaves us with the thought of trying home schooling. Everyday more and more I look in to it. Costco I have found actually sells curriculum. I have also looked at the A-Beka, K12 and other curriculums. There are so many out there that it’s all mind blowing and confusing as to what is the best. My neighbor is a home educator and has had the thought of starting her own community co-op, she is more then willing to help hold our hand through this undertaking. However I do not give myself the credit I deserve to undertake such a monumental task, when I was in school I was a mediocre at best student, my parents failed me in the fact that they did not seek help for me in the subjects I was failing at so miserably. So how could I ever expect to teach my children anything?

I have been fortunate with strong family support on the subject, my niece who was in all AP courses has volunteered to help with Math and Science, Hubby also is a wiz at math and English-so those subjects will be covered. But there are those who are giving me “The look” you know those doubtful eyes; my mother for one asked if I was “Qualified enough” to teach. Several friends have said “Why would you want to do that, your just getting your life back” and the selfish side of me tends to ask the same questions. With both boys in school all day I will have time for things I haven’t before, shopping or lunch with friends, house cleaning, the gun range…  I worry about the 5 year old and his attention span and how in the heck do I keep him interested in learning.

But then the other side of me kicks in and thinks about all they are teaching in the public school system these days, and the things that my then kindergartner last year came home talking about. I think about how I do not want our children raised in a government controlled environment when 2 out of 6 hours are spent actually learning. I can’t stop remembering the public school teacher in New Jersey that taught the “Obama” song to the kids and video taped them singing it and how disgusted I was at that.  I think about how we can have a more flexible schedule and do more camping, going to places that are educational and have them write reports about their “field trips”.  I also think about how bad the economy is and just wanting to keep them “closer” to me. A good friend told me not too long ago that California dictates the curriculum for the rest of the country-and that alone is enough to scare any conservative parent in to home schooling. However, with the financial events of these last few weeks, we may not have a choice.  Maybe I should start stock piling school books and notebook paper as well….

U.S Divorce

DIVORCE AGREEMENT -- This is so incredibly well-put, and I can hardly believe it's by a student!! Whatever he runs for, I'll vote for him!

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists, and Obama supporters, et. al.:

We have stuck together since the late 1950s for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

1. Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy. Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides had such distinct and disparate tastes.

2. We don't like redistributive taxes, so you can keep them.

3. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

4. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA, and the military.

5. We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar, and bio-diesel.

6. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore, and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.

7. We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart, and Wall Street.

8. You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless homeboys, hippies, druggies, and illegal aliens.

9. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks.

10. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

11. You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

12. You can have the peace-niks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

13. We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.

14. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness, and Shirley McLain. You can also have the U.N., but we will no longer be paying the bill.

15. We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks, and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

16. You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.

17. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.

18. We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."

19. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya," or "We Are the World".

20. We'll practice trickledown economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

21. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

22. Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Dehydrated Food and Seed Bank

We were super excited to see our Costco order arrived. Dehydrated veggies, powered whey milk, and non-hybrid seed bank ( for whenever all the canned and dehydrated food runs out). We ultimately would like to have 1 to 1 1/2 years of food stored. And buying seeds is a real nifty idea and something most people do not consider, when SHTF and things do not recover in a reasonable amount of time, what would you do to feed your family? How about plant a garden, it will help kill time, and by letting the kids help out with it, will keep them occupied as well. Just make sure when you buy a seed bank that it is NON-HYBRID.

This current order was very reasonably priced, and was shipped and received within the week. Last weekend we added some metal shelving, everything had been packed up in buckets and hid in a closet, I had no idea what was expiring and what wasnt. You know the old saying: " out of sight, and out of mind" . Well that is how this was. We got the kids to help, and it was a  math lesson for them  learning how to read expiration dates. so now all the older stuff is in the front and the newer items in the back. And now we have this saying in the house " Take from the front, replace in the back"

The Wicked Wicked Proposed U.N.Treaty

First off this writer believes the U.N should be dismantled. I think there are more pressing things in the world like the down fall of the global economy. But I worry this administration is going to "backdoor" the taking away of our Second Amendment rights. If re-elected then Obama will certainly try to get this passed. This article is alarming. My local sheriff said a couple of years ago at a community watch meeting " You can't have a cop in your back pocket, so make sure you have a gun to defend yourself, because we can't be every where". In the words of my hubby : "You can have them when their empty".
