Ya know, this world would be a better place if the kids could run it. Our nine year old ND had to write this little report on if he ran the world for a day, what would he do.. His first thing was to fire Obama. the second thing was to end common core, and the third was to return school lunch menus to their rightful place.
While all the other kids had wishful thoughts of toys, and video games, ND came out with a grown up political statement in which his teacher gave him an A.
I love to debate the issues with the both of our boys and hear their views on the world and the candidates. They know about the Hillary email issue, and both firmly believe that if they pulled a stunt like that, they would and this is a quote: "lose their xbox for a year" So why should she get off?
The other issue I was told is that "Gun Free Zones" should cease to exist. It was asked of me that Don't all these people know that the mass shootings happen in places that are gun free? You don't hear of these mass killings at gun shows or gun ranges do you? Noooooo you don't...always in a gun free zone!!, then if you want to stop it, get rid of gun free zones....
Another thing was to build our military back up, and add more ships, I mean we are the country that was turning ships out like tic tacs during WW11, so why can't we now?. We have an enemy out there that wants us destroyed and despite what we are told: its not climate change....."DUH"
And the Space program! What the heck is that about? All kids dream about being an astronaut and with one stroke of a pen and a speech that dream was crushed. .
Lastly, (and I said this to Matt in my previous blog post)...both boys would LOVE to stand before Jeb Bush during a debate and have him work an elementary school common core math problem.. and not some 1st or 2nd grade level problem...no, he needs to attempt a 5th grade problem.

Heh good for you guys, good for ND and good for the teacher. Far too many teachers these days try and spread their own liberal politics in the class room and would have given him an F.

I am still a firm believer in a much smaller standing military unless we are at legal war and we shouldn't be playing world wide police force either but a much larger militia program where every male is a member unless physically unable to. Of course these days if we needed to ramp up production like in WWII we would be in trouble so best to have em ready.
I think for me the militia idea depends on who is in the White House..
DeleteWe actually love the school the boys are in. I guess that's what you get though when going to a rural school versus a city school. Once a week prior to school they have a bible story class, its open to anyone and not mandatory, but the fact they do that in today's schools systems surprises me.

ReplyDeleteGood on you for raising kids who have a grasp of the realities of life. I'm pretty sure when they get older, they won't feel the need for "safe zones" or worry about getting their feelings hurt over some microaggression. It is nice to see there are still parents who talk with their kids about the world around them rather than teaching them how to sign up for welfare and food stamps.
ReplyDeleteThere are times when I cringe over a news story they may be watching, and want to mute the tv...but then again, like you said..they have a grasp of realty and understand the world is not a nice place.
DeleteI think they are learning good values. I listened to a radio program tonight. The basic premise was that young people today constitute the first generation doomed to a lower standard of living than their parents. Having a firm grounding will help kids make it when they are young adults.
ReplyDeleteI see that all the time with other kids in their class or on their ball teams. our kids both have an zbox and tablets, and I can count on one hand the times per week they are on them. I worry so much about their future, and what this age group is going to inherit, that I want to make sure our boys are self sufficient and know how to survive and take care of themselves.
Deleteyou and Senior know how to raise smart, well-adjusted kids. i, too, worry about this coming generation...but every now and again, i meet a kid very similar to your 2 boys...and then i realize that not all of them are dumbed-down and numb...like your boys, there are still smart and thoughtful kids out there. there may not be a lot, but they are there.

I hate that they know too much though. Its a sad day when you cant turn on the TV without hearing about some sex abuse case and etc... I hate the fact that my kids even know what that means. But on the other hand, I am happy to know they are not naive and know that the world is a dangerous place....
