How To Spend a Rainy Sunday

The rain is spread from east to west here, The radar looks like one big green splotch of red, yellows, and dark greens.Yes it has set in for the afternoon and evening.

SENIOR came home just after noon from his sleep over with STEPHENDUKE and REBEL..  He was exhausted, guess they had a late night of dancing around the fire and eating those ginormous steaks...
From what I understand there was also coyotes involved.

So I decided to whip up a treat to give him a sugar rush, It is one of the best chocolate chip cookie recipes I have come across and absolutely love. I found it when a friend of mine brought a batch to a party, they were out of this world, and she told me to find the recipe on the back of the Crisco Butter Flavored Can, or the Crisco website.

And boy are they good!  I could not get them off the tray fast enough, all the little hands were trying to steal them as fast as I could bake them.

ULITMATE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES:

INGREDIENTS:
  • 3/4 stick Crisco® Baking Sticks Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
  • OR 3/4 cup Crisco® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
  • 1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 3/4 cups Pillsbury BEST® All Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 (6 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional)

PREPARATION DIRECTIONS:

  1. HEAT oven to 375ºF.
  2. COMBINE shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat in egg. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into shortening mixture until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
  3. DROP by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
  4. BAKE 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet on a cooling rack. Remove cookies to rack to cool completely.
  5.  If nuts are omitted, add an additional 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Sunday

Clocks were set back last night and we got our hour of sleep back as well. Gosh I love Fall !

Senior brought home the open trailer today he did some much needed maintenance as this week is our "mulch job from hades"...   We have to move around 40 yards of it throughout one of our communities. We stick to doing it ourselves so we can net more money.

While Senior was doing the work on the trailer, I was in the back cutting collard greens, and un-beknownst to me the "IT " Happened..  I came in the house and opened the laundry room door, some how, in some way a large bottle of bleach had fallen, and half of it leaked out on to the floor. A laundry bag with a few shirts in it got wet. So, I had to break it to Senior that his favorite "Carolina Gamecocks" t-shirt was ruined, but to smooth it over I showed him my "Glock Girl" shirt. Both are now rags in the garage.   *Sigh* I promise to purchase him a new shirt on our next visit to the SC Estate.
The  bleach cleanup was a nightmare, the mop head I was using got bleached out, I smell like bleach, and it was my neighbor who said it best :" well at least your laundry room floor is good and disinfected"  uggggh

Senior felt after that incident we just needed to get out of the house, so we all headed down to our favorite gun shop to see what was on sale, I can tell you that not much was on sale. He is looking to sell his CETME and get a AR Pistol. We were also sizing up ND for his first little rifle, he is hoping Santa will drop one off for him this year.
I am of the firm belief that not only should some people be parents, but those same folks should not be allowed to own a firearm..  I  like going in to gun stores, and people watch..very amusing.

Sun is now going down on this Sunday, the clock reads 6pm  but it looks like 7:30 outside...   We are grilling chicken and it is about ready....  Enjoy your evening everyone!

What is it with us Blogger Girls ?

Ick! I am feeling my good Friend Kymbers pain today. Headache, cramps...ick! not feeling good at all. My monthly moon phase is at her peak . Here it is 12:30, I am still in my jammies, and so are the boys. Even our poor puppy Ruger is feeling under the weather, I think he ate something out in the yard, because he came in yacking. So he is resting in his cage.
I am not going to complain to much about it.  Because, happy for today and not next weekend during our camping trip, which also happens to be the weekend before Senior and Mines 18 year anniversary.   : )

The dark clouds have left, and God has blessed us with a beautiful Sunday.
We are invited tonight to our neighbors church for their annual "Trunk or Treat" festival- The church goes over the top and it is lots of fun for the kids, but I am not sure I am even feeling up to that. I want to for the boys. If I can shake this headache, then I will.

Again more prayers today for our friends and family to the north..Hurricane Sandy is going to make things interesting for them over the next couple of days. I hope all is prepared, and folks are not taking this monster storm lightly. Please stay safe up there..

Tomorrow is a big day, but that is all I will say for now. You must check back tomorrow if you want to find out why......  : )

Hot Coffee and Sunday Morning..

I haven't been around too much on blogger...sorry about that, first off was kind of under the weather last week..not I am up and over the weather and feeling better.
Then I took on the task of making a baby album for my neighbours daughter who is due in July...her shower wasn't suppose to be until June, so I thought I had tons of time...then the bomb dropped on me that they had to move it to yesterday...So, I had only 2.5 days to work on a 20 page album...
Lot of margaritas later..I got it done..   : )

Now we have Beryl off our coast...Yippee cause we need the rain!. Senior and I have gone over our little checklist, we know if we loose power ( which I doubt) we have plenty of food..and just in case we did fill up our cars yesterday and got some new flashlights. He also got out and cranked up our generator.. This was a good opportunity for us to go over all our supplies and restock if need be.

I always love it when we are threatened by  storm. I love the natural curiosity of people to flock to the beach to "See the storm"...all the area beaches are officially closed as we have been under a tropical storm warning for 2 days, but we still have those folks who can't stay away, doesn't matter about rip currents, or a rogue wave washing them out to sea...By God they want to pack up the family and go "See the storm"...  lol..I really shouldn't make a joke about it though..my mother is one of those persons who would do that...

Right now it is really calm, and a beautiful morning, but the wind is picking up and later this afternoon the rain is suppose to start. Once I get Senior up we need to go around the outside of the house and pick up loose things and definitely take down my bird feeder...

The boys think its a reason to party though, they have turned there little bunk beds in to a "bunker" of sorts...complete with coloring books, transformer and star wars action figures - As long as you have Optimus Prime, Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon what else do you need ..right ?

Now good readers, I am off here to go make a big breakfast for the family...Fresh bacon, eggs, and grits...  I must really love them!   Enjoy your Sunday.....
