things round here #6

With the fact that spring has sprung, I have been trying to work on the chicken hatching thing..  I pick up a broody hen, throw her in for some loving with the rooster, then a couple of days later put her in the maternity ward,  so she can lay her eggs, and nothing...  The entire science of it all baffles me that I am not considering either  buying chicks, or getting the eggs once they lay them and incubating them. ..   Will keep you all posted..  : )

Planting season has also begun, Senior has been non stop getting the garden  plowed and the rows neat and spaced decently. I picked up a pound of Silver king corn seed last week, and over the weekend we got it in the ground..

We wore out the hired help, and much to their happiness we are finally investing in a seeder plow...

But, 15 rows later...so pretty!!!    I still have a quarter of the bag left, and I suppose Senior will do some more rows this weekend..

I have the best niece ever, she does metal stamping and charms and made me this necklace for the boys baseball. I love it!!!

We just celebrated Easter, and for you all I hope it was truly blessed.  It was our first year coloring fresh eggs straight from the chickens, and I got to tell you the natural colors from the hens, made for some vibrant colors.... They also made for some great deviled eggs, that were so good the boys cleaned them out....

what we have been doing....

We have been doing so darn much around the estate that its easier for me to show you in pictures instead of writing it all out....so here we go:

The cucumber seeds that my fellow Angel "Sandy" sent me, have exploded:

Our first attempt at corn has been okay, and it has come in nicely

Until this past Tuesday night when we were hit with about 6 inches of rain in an hour and had some flash flooding through the garden. My Uncle is the oracle of gardening and said not to worry that it would stand back up on its own. It is to a point, but we do have some stalks that are just simply ruined:

Our neighbor let their cows out in this pasture behind our house, and they came up for a visit:

The boys baseball team won the "south division" and went to the championship game. but sad to say we lost. However, our coach is also the coach of the All-Star team and asked NW ( the oldest) to play on the team. We go to the All-Star tournament for 9-10 year olds in two weeks, and have been practicing 4 out of 7 days.

Between baseball and gardening, Senior built the Jersey Giants a new coop and we got it painted:

So thats been our week...just been busy, busy , busy because its that time of year for us around here. Hope you are all doing well....

Mulch and More Mulch

Day four of the mulch job from hades. Senior and I have now shoveled and spread about 35 yards with about another 8-10 to go.. In comparison think of shoveling  half a semi load of mulch. Now add in the raging sinus headache I have had for two days and you can imagine.
Yep !  Let no person ever say I am a lazy round blob with no estrogen. Unlike others, I don't have time to sit around and collect frog figurines and write  a non NY Times best selling book that you can find in a dollar tree. I did read the reviews over on Amazon, there were only five, and they sounded the same, it was at that time that I learned from a reliable source that the author went on to Amazon and wrote the  reviews herself- no wonder the book was at dollar tree.

Tomorrow is a weather day, extrememly high winds and cold so we are taking the day off. I am happy for the break, got lots to do around our house. And I am working on the cards I have donated to our buddy Robs fundraiser.

This is the last week of fall baseball, and tonight NW hit a in the park grand slam, and ND had a few RBIs and scored several times. I was thrilled they had such a good game, my sister and neice showed up and it was a real joy for the boys to have extended family there to watch them play.

Must tell you all good night, and go take care of this headache...  have a good evening

I Really Hate It When...

The TV in Seniors "Man Cave" goes on the blink. And he is in the living room commandeering my TV.  Then I can never watch any of my good shows. Because He has sports on.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE football, Baseball ( whoo hoo Atlanta Braves--avoided the sweep! )  and NASCAR (-when they are not going around an oval..I like the road courses.)
And, I am the commissioner of our Fantasy Football League. Women are the fastest growing demographic in fantasy football, this year I am happy to report that we have 5 female owned teams, and 5 boy owned teams..Therefore we named the divisions Estrogen and Testosterone. Whether you like football or not, it is still fun to play and fight for bragging rights. This year I am awarding an actual trophy, so there is more of an incentive.

The boys ( and I use that term loosely)  are all ready running their mouths about who is going to take home this years championship trophy. They assume we girls belong in the kitchen and are going to end up making them a big "Roast Beef Sammich" as it was told to me yesterday.

It is turning out to be a real battle of the sexes. It is incomprehensible to some of them that we girls have taken over half the league. What these boys don't realize is that 4 out of 5 of us , are seasoned Fantasy Football players, and the one who has not played, is a football fanatic in her own right and loves her LSU Tigers. Many a day last season she and I chit chatted about what teams did what on Sundays, she was anxious to join our league.

The one man ( not Senior) but still a retired Senior Chief is the one with the loudest mouth. He is the commissioner of our Fantasy Nascar league--a league that currently Yours Truly , yes ME -JUGM is leading. So, yesterday during our football draft I politely said:  " If you run your football team the way you are running your nascar team, then you will be an easy win for your opponent"  It was met with lots of jeers and LOLs

The "Man Children"  have drawn the line in the sand  and we Ladies have crossed it . We have torn off our aprons and burnt them in effigy, we have thrown down the rolling pins, and have printed out NFL stats, and watch daily on who to play and who to sit. A sleeping giant has been awoken, they opened the door, now we are going through it...

Time to put the men and kids to bed girls and go out for dinner!

Yea! that is what I am talking about!
