What does FORWARD mean?
On Monday the BO Campaign released its slogan for the election..simply the word "Forward" with the "O" being what we all remember from the 2008 election. This marks the beginning of the re-election campaign, and will be shown over and over on billboards, shirts, bumper stickers, and signs.
The sheeple and those that will vote for him based on color will argue that Forward means we are progressing onward with the economy, that he has rolled up his sleeves and getting America moving again... but in history the word is associated with Marxism.
Since hearing about this on the Neil Boortz show, I have been doing my own research in to what the word means in the socialist circles, wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward" which goes on to explain its meaning in the Marxist and socialist circles.
During the 19th and 20th century the word was meant as a battle cry of sorts for European radicals as they denounced capitalism, to move forward and embrace socialism.
There have been at least two radical-left publications named "Vorwaerts" (the German word for "Forward"). One was the daily newspaper of the Social Democratic Party of Germany whose writers included Friedrich Engels and Leon Trotsky. It still publishes as the organ of Germany's SDP, though that party has changed considerably since World War II. Another was the 1844 biweekly reader of the Communist League. Karl Marx, Engels and Mikhail Bakunin are among the names associated with that publication.
Vladimir Lenin founded the publication "Vpered" (the Russian word for "forward") in 1905. Soviet propaganda film-maker Dziga Vertov made a documentary whose title is sometimes translated as "Forward, Soviet" (though also and more literally as "Stride, Soviet").
So this weekend as his official campaign kicks off with rallies, dinners and numerous other social events. I hope you all think of the term "Forward" and what it has meant in history and educate yourself.
