Spring is springing

Senior has been working hard on the garden, now that we have an extra hour of daylight, he comes home, eats supper and gets on the tractor. We got about 2 rows of sweet onions planted, which have began to sprout, a couple more weeks and the corn will go in. 

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am happy for Spring..everything is waking up and life is returning to our hilltop.

Saturday morning we had to be up early for the baseball jamboree and team pictures, I grabbed my coffee and stood at the kitchen window, then I caught a glimpse, and ran for my camera. She was standing at the edge of the garden, just walking around. Senior had even gone outside to get something from the car, and she did not get spooked. I caught this pic when she looked over at him.

I have been meaning to post this one for a while...the boys wanted sling shots. I guess it s a right of passage... It was probably the best money I have spent in a while, as they have become quite proficient with them, until they started targeting the chickens with acorns. Once I stopped that they go after the crows in the garden...

Well friends I must be off here, got chores and errands to tend too.

i am here...

much to the dismay of some, I am still here..sorry to disappoint!

Now with Spring in full gear we have tons to do around the estate. Garden has been plowed and planted. Baby chicks are growing, and I have since acquired a baby "Jersey Giant" Rooster. I googled them..they get up to 15 pounds.  Senior is in the planning stage of building another coop for him and the black austrolops we got a few weeks ago.

With the start of spring, that also means "baseball". We got lucky and both boys were placed on the same team. Practice started this week, and so far all the kids look really good and ready to play.

Well that is kind of the news for now..  Like I said, it is Spring, and we are all busy, busy busy. So don't fret over my lack of post...afterall I can't be like some folks who sit in front the monitor in their tightie whities hitting the "refresh" button 24/7 while chasing prescription drugs with a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20  and dreaming of a blissful three cherries on the local slot machine...wouldn't that be the life!

end of week stuff

With Senior seemingly working 1,000 per week, things around the estate for me have been a bit busy. Finally the weather here has turned warmer, and no rain since Thursday. It is nice to have everything dry out.

I went out to the coop on Friday and one of my Golden Sex Links jumped up beside me. I did not think anything of it until .I saw her back ( warning picture is gruesome) My dominate Rhode Island Red Hen, jumped on her, and once blood was drawn it was a coop frenzy. I gently picked her up, flushed her back with warm water, and gently rubbed some antibiotics in to it. Then I placed her in isolation to heal.
As for the Red, well she went in to chicken jail for a bit, and now is listed for sale on craigslist.

I have always thought that birds were decedents of dinosaurs, and now I am a firm believer..

 Senior was at work all day yesterday so the boys and I got out in the yard, and took advantage of the beautiful day. First it was planting some spring seeds. my buddy Sandy sent us some sunflowers, and the boys wanted to start a batch. I like harvesting them for bird seed and roasting....

There was a nice steady breeze so after planting seeds we did some kite flying. NW got this one with money my sister had sent him...

Later in the afternoon Senior came home, and wanted to go get a new tractor battery for his dads ole farm-all. This trip took us in to Tractor Supply..We went in for a battery and some tomato seeds, and came out with 6 new Black Austrolop Chicks....never did get the battery or seeds....lol
I guess Senior will need to build a new addition to the coop...

Did remember to turn clocks forward last night, and now I am feeling it...really do hate these silly time changes. God has blessed with more beautiful weather today, Senior is off and I hope we get out and take advantage of it. Happy Sunday !!!

A Weekend Away..

We took the kids out of school on Friday, said "good bye" to the rainy weather that has been plaguing Florida, and headed up to the South Carolina Estate.
Weather was gorgeous the entire weekend. Blue skies, a warm breeze. Spring is in full swing, and the trees had all filled in with leaves and were just so darn green...
I love this time of year there. Every thing is just so alive...

Mr. Farmer gave us some okra and green bean seeds. The boys wanted to plant them in the garden. But Grandpaws ole Farmall is currently out of order. I told them we would have to do the digging manually, so I gave them each a hoe and told them to go at it.
This isn't a violation of child labor laws is it? The thing about it is, they actually enjoyed it. NW loves fried okra and couldn't plant his seeds fast enough.

With the planting of these two new crops,  it sealed the deal on the boys and I spending the summer there. Some one has to be there to take care of the garden, so we will head up after school is out later this month. They are thrilled over the decision.
I am hoping this will encourage my parents to get up and out of their house. A change of scenery will do them both a bit of good, plus there is plenty of room there for them to walk around and not feel so confined.
My uncle lives about 60 miles north of the estate, and is hoping my parents visit as well, he just had a pond put in on his property, and  stocked it with bass and some other stuff. Uncle C is hoping dad will join him in a day of fishing. 

Now we are back home, boys in school...house is quiet for the moment--time to let out a deep *sigh*

Looks like It could be "ground hog on the barbie" for dinner in Ohio..

A prosecutor in Ohio is reportedly seeking the death penalty for the famous rodent who emerged from his home in Gobbler’s Knob, Pa., on Feb. 2 and did not see his shadow, translating to an “early spring,” according to his handlers. But Michael Gmoser, prosecuting attorney in Butler County, said Thursday that Phil's inaccurate forecast warrants capital punishment, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

“Let's face it, Punxsutawney Phil has let us down,” Gmoser said, tongue firmly in cheek, after filing the necessary court documents. “I awoke this morning to a snowstorm, low temperatures and howling wind.”

Spring began Wednesday, but local forecasts in the Pittsburgh area and throughout Pennsylvania show a good chance of snow this weekend and into next week.
