Sun Cycles and Weather

Saw this report the other day which opened up a discussion between Senior and I about all the extreme cold weather, and the fact that any and all global warming theories have been shattered.
Did you know the sun shifts polarity every 11 years ? And 2013 meant the end of the most recent solar cycle and polarity shift. This shift has sent a tidal wave of ripples through out our solar system.

Solar cycle 24 ended and with that started the cold weather extremities, even some of the worlds most noted scientists are starting to back track on the global warming issue and some are even saying that we could be headed towards a lengthy period of global cooling:

Another fact is in 2007 scientist predicted the arctic ice sheet would disappear by 2013, well not only did it NOT disappear, it actually grew.

So are solar cycles and the and global temperatures related? I am not exactly sure, but It does make for a good argument and it would seem logical at least to me, that if the moon affects our tides, then why wouldn't the sun's cycles affect our weather.
