Barrel and receiver assembly was removed from a Ruger 10/22 walnut stock, simple tools were used for the build, a Phillips and flat head screwdriver and 2 Allen wrenches.
The build took less time then it did for us to can 6 quarts of corn.

UPDATE: Iron Maiden Project Pt. 2
We finally got all the parts in for the build. First item received was the ATI 6 position collapsible folding composite stock, with cheek piece. Second was the Pro-Mag extended height piccatiny rail, center portion of the rail is hollowed out to allow for use of the iron sights. Third item is a 4x32 scope, and finally we got a OD green neoprene sling.

Project "Iron Maiden"
Being the metal head that he is and thanks to the song: "Run To The Hills" by Iron Maiden, Senior has had an idea to build a .22 survival rifle. However with the inflated cost of the Springfield M6 Scout, and an original Armalite M7 Survival Gun and Henry's version of the AR-7 survival gun. He thinks the best platform to build a survival gun is the Ruger 10/22. Ruger does have a new version of the 10/22 that breaks apart at the receiver and barrel for placement in a back pack or to take camping. It is a good idea that Ruger has, but in my opinion its TMMP ( too many moving parts).
Numerous other bloggers have posted about this gun, including myself. There is no doubt of the quality and durability of this gun. And the numerous accessories that are available for it.
His initial plan is a bone stock 10/22 with a Butler Creek Folding Stock with 3 accessory rails toward the end of the front sight.
What we would like to know from my readers are what other accessories would be good to add to this project and your reasoning.

Crickett .22...Our Boys First Rifle...
Okay, I have settled down a bit from the assault on the military, and decided it was time for another gun post. This is one I have actually been wanting to do for a while, and I hope some of you out there find it useful.
When our oldest turned 6, Senior wanted to have the honor of getting him his first rifle. So in talking with Stephen, and doing research, he learned about the Crickett .22 youth rifle. The name in itself evokes cuteness... : ) How can you NOT like this little rifle?
I , as the mom was a bit nervous. But, after holding it, and seeing all the many safety features on it. I realized it was the perfect first rifle for my little one.
And YES we had those in our family, that was totally against this...one being my mother. But we as the parents, ignored her. I can also hear the rants of those anti-gun folks for allowing a child to posses a firearm. But None of those issues mattered or could even compare to the look on Seniors face when he proudly gave his oldest son, his first rifle. It was like Ralphies dad from the movie "A Christmas Story"....the man was beaming with pride.
Formally known as the "Chipmunk" manufactered by Keystone Firearms. The Crickett Rifle, is inexpensive ( around 120.00) and accurate, and is a great way to introduce a youngster to shooting and it also helps to teach them the importance of firearm safety. The Crickett is a single shot bolt action with a firing pin cocking device that acts as the safety too. Leave it disarmed, and it’s as dangerous as your child’s favorite toy. It is the right size for kids, and even fun for adults to shoot.
And its not just for boys, The Crickett Company has entire line of "Girlie" colors as well...I know my friend Kays husband purchased one for their oldest daughter, and she has had a blast learning to shoot. So, if you are a mom who loves to shoot and has a daughter, this would be a great way spend a "Mother/Daughter" day out.
