corn pickin time

The corn is ready...  We are literally up to our ears in it!  the first 75-100 ears we boiled for 7-8 minutes then soaked in ice water before sealing them with the foodsaver. the bad ones we gave to the chickens.

Next couple of batches, I think we will can. Either way, this family is going to be eating a lot of corn throughout the winter months...  lol

And in other news, the major heat wave we had over the past few weeks broke down, and the rains have returned. Yesterday was a nice cooling downpour:

our family is celebrating our little man NW turing 10 today. I remember when I had him my sister told me to enjoy those moments, because once they start school the years start flying by, and sad to say she was right. I have no idea where the time went....(sniff, sniff)

Now made in the USA

They banned the importation of them, but they did not stop the company from opening up a factory here. Just proves there are ways around the law.

The first ones have rolled off the assembly line, and  Senior is ready to get one that is stamped:  "Made in the USA"

What a great country we live in!

Our garden is producing....

We got some beautiful cantaloupes and watermelons coming in on the vines.
This really excites us because along with the corn, these are a first for us:

I noticed our zucchini has sprouted.. We love us some fried zucchini:

The tomatoes were growing by leaps and bounds, so instead of the cheapie ones from the store. We bought some green PVC coated garden fence and Senior made his own. We got the yellow tent stakes to keep them in place:

Well folks some heavy storms are moving into the area and that means much needed rain (we hope) for the garden...
Have a good night

what we have been doing....

We have been doing so darn much around the estate that its easier for me to show you in pictures instead of writing it all out....so here we go:

The cucumber seeds that my fellow Angel "Sandy" sent me, have exploded:

Our first attempt at corn has been okay, and it has come in nicely

Until this past Tuesday night when we were hit with about 6 inches of rain in an hour and had some flash flooding through the garden. My Uncle is the oracle of gardening and said not to worry that it would stand back up on its own. It is to a point, but we do have some stalks that are just simply ruined:

Our neighbor let their cows out in this pasture behind our house, and they came up for a visit:

The boys baseball team won the "south division" and went to the championship game. but sad to say we lost. However, our coach is also the coach of the All-Star team and asked NW ( the oldest) to play on the team. We go to the All-Star tournament for 9-10 year olds in two weeks, and have been practicing 4 out of 7 days.

Between baseball and gardening, Senior built the Jersey Giants a new coop and we got it painted:

So thats been our week...just been busy, busy , busy because its that time of year for us around here. Hope you are all doing well....
