busy weekend

 If you have been over to SENIOR'S blog, then you know he got a new toy: a new tractor. Yup! I guess you could say that we are official country people now. It was really a much needed addition to the estate, because there has been a lot of cleaning up to do around here.



Like the picture above, The boys awoke Saturday morning, and headed out the door to "Help" us. So, they grabbed some rakes, and I directed them to lets rake up leaves around all the trees...so we did... It took us the better part of the day to get all of it done.

 

While working we found an old machete, or knife that grew in to this trunk:

 



 And a really cool knot that formed at the base of this tree, now affectionately known as the "wishing well tree" :

We also purchased a deer feeder-  across from it is a trail camera--all we seem to get is raccoons... again if you have gone over to Seniors, you will see we caught one in our trap. :

The boys, while catching crickets, came across this little Box Turtle...they scared the crap out of him, and he refused to come of his shell until we all left. And let me tell you the person who said turtles move slow is full of it. He got the heck out of dodge!  ha ha

Our Good neighbor Mr. Farmer stopped by to help with some of the clean up, he mentioned that  five of the baby chicks, that have been in the brooder were ready for the big coop. So, we made the move. They freaked, and the older girls were picking on them, but now they have all settled. He did sex some of them for me, and it looks like we have three or four roosters in the mix. One, is pictured here, he is  the white one behind the little brown one, you can see his crown starting to stick up, the boys named him "Billy Bob"  :

 

 Now it is Monday, the boys hated going back to school and  massive amounts of rain are headed this way. The neighbor behind us has opened up his back pasture for his horses, they like this dreary weather:

It has hit our shores....

Will there be an out cry from the public? Will the President come out and speak about this poor woman who lost her life today? Will Sharpton and Holder attend the funeral?

I knew it was only a matter of time before this kind of act would hit our shores. The poor boy shot to death in NJ by an alleged Islamic extremist barely made the news, what about this incident?
Will it be labeled terrorism or a hate crime?  Will this serve as a wake up call?

Makes me sick, enough is enough...

My thoughts and prayers go out to this woman's family, and having to deal with the horrific way she died today.

poultry project..another update

The girls they are a growin!  Since the last post about the ladies, we have aquired two Americana's and two Golden Link Pullets. There was some friction at first, but now every one seems to be getting along. The boys are taking very good care of them, and get in to the coop everyday to check the feed, and water, and clean. Senior teases them that they are in the coop so much, he will move their bed out there.  ha ha.  The kids also like playing with the girls, and like to place them on their shoulders and arms to sit.

The babies are growing as well, This past weekend Senior and Mr. Farmer built a new brooder box for us. Complete with a roost, and trap door for me to sweep out the poo. I tried to get a good picture of them, but the little critters jump around so much it is difficult.  The attitudes are starting to flair, so we are not quite sure how many roosters we may have. But I am suspicious of at least two or three.

 

 

 

a little bit of peace in an otherwise crazy world...

Things globaly are so nuts right now, that you some times just want to disappear. One thing I like about living in this area, are all the natural resources.. don't get me wrong, Florida has its share too.
I guess it is because every thing here is new to us, eveyday there is a new adventure to be had.

We found this park, lots of hiking trails and one heck of a large lake. The boys absolutly love it because of all the bridges it has.
It is nice to take some time, get away from the chaos..and take a deep breath. So, with camera in hand one afternoon we headed out. Photography is my passion so here are some pics :

Canned butter..and other stuff

 I have been trying to get to this post for a few days now, but every time I sit down to type..something happens and I have to stop. So here is attempt number 1000

First off..an apology: I was watching "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last week..because I think his monologues are really funny. And saw where Julianne Hough a" Dancing with the Stars" judge was going to be on. They announced the contestants for this current season..one of them was Sasha Obama. I commented to Harry and Sandy about this over the weekend, and I tuned in Monday to watch..only No Sasha Obama..  I searched and searched the web for an answer, and other people who heard that announcement was just as perplexed as I.
I can only assume that it was a mess up on the part of Kimmel, or Secret Service scrubbed her competing due to security concerns...  oh well.

Now, on to other things... Everyone else has been canning butter, so Senior and I jumped on board this past weekend with it as well. I found a really good recipe for it: End Times Report-Canning Butter. The one thing I liked about this recipe was it did not need pressure canning or a water bath.
So It was very easy to accomplish.

The folks over at ETR also have a good recipe for canning hard cheese such as cheddar. One that we will most likely try out this weekend.

We have had lots of rain here since Saturday...our garden is a nightmare. But, weather is turning cooler and I had to go dig out the boys "Winter Wear". I say winter wear but really coming from Florida to these parts it is more like "Fall Wear" . My Neice is also in the same boat, moving from Florida to PA. She awoke Tuesday morning to 45 ldegrees...She is a true Florida Girl, and all ready missing the warmth. Plus every thing is gas there, so she has to learn how to regulate her heating usage. It's going to suck for her this winter.. 

School is almost out for the day, so I am off here to go fetch the kids..  Have a good day everyone!

Toyotas and Terrorist...Part 2

Didn't I just ponder this a few weeks ago: 

 Since April Our Government has been sending non-lethal items to the Syrian Rebels, including 43 brand new Toyota Hilux Trucks. And  since ISIS and those same Syrian Rebels have pretty much joined forces-guess who is now sporting around in trucks that we bought?

Anyone else find this wonky, that we  can not purchase these trucks in the USA for ourselvess. But we did for these terrorists? They should have chosen Chevys, at least then they would have been equipped wth On-Star, for easy tracking..
