refugees : a rant of sorts

Lots of liberal people I know, saying those of us who want a stop the refugees are non-christian, and hypocrites has me irked. The things they are saying is making me wonky to the point I want to pull my hair out. 

 A liberal German friend threw in everyone's face that her country has taken in thousands why can't the U.S.? This is also the same friend that thinks Bernie Sanders is a Role Model and thinks school lunches and health care should be free for everyone. 

  I am a Christian and I know all too well what the bible says about helping your neighbor and being a good Samaritan. While I am a firm believer in the bible, I also know that back in bible times, the ancient Philistines and Egyptians didn't have nukes, chemical weapons, guns, and bombs to torment the Hebrews.  Imagine if they had?

I am not apologizing for caring more about our own people maybe those liberals have forgotten about them -  You know the millions who are out of work, homeless and hungry. I prefer to help the many, American Veterans who gave selfishly to defend our country only to have that same country slap them in the face, the ones that are homeless and hungry and sleep every night on the street. 

 I have given out dollars here and there to those standing outside of a store holding signs asking for help, and pumped in 5.00 of gas to a ladies car because she was on empty and forget her wallet and was just trying to get home. More recently, we donated bags of clothes to a family who lost everything in the South Carolina floods. And, as a child I would go with my dad who was a fireman to buy food for the homeless that would hang out near his station. 

 So please stop telling me I am not a Christian or care about my fellow human being. 

 By not taking in Syrian Refugees and closing our borders does not make us "mean" And it doesn't make us insensitive to their plight, I just feel that for every legitimate refugee wanting a new start, there are those out there who aren't and only mean to wish us harm. And it is that percent no matter how big or small that I worry about.

A guy on twitter made this appropriate analogy today: " I lock my doors at night not because I hate those who are outside...I lock my doors because I love the people inside".

our memorial day....

For Memorial Day...we let the kids play hookie. Yes our commie school district does not recognize the sacrifice that was made to keep our country free. School was in session today as well as Veterans Day. Really irks me because MLK and other insignificant days are given off. ,

So, we kept the boys home today and went to the cemetery to put flags on those that once served this country. Buried here is my Father in Law who served in Korea, and his brother..a highly decorated Marine that did three tours in Vietnam, when asked to go back for a fourth tour, he was denied.

Just our small way of teaching our children what this day means and honoring those who sacrificed so much.

Pelosi's war on women

so let me get this straight: Early this week Pelosi said a reporter questioning her ability to serve as minority leader is sexist.

BUT......  This same week when a fellow democrat ; Tammy Duckworth asked if because of her current medical condition of being 8 months pregnant and in a wheel chair if she could vote by proxy due to her doctor not wanting her to travel because of the late nature of her pregnancy.  All the vote is for, is to elect caucus leadership.
This request was denied by Pelosi

If you are unfamiliar with Tammy Duckworth, she is also an Iraqi war veteran and lost both her legs while serving. I may not agree with her politics, but she deserves more then that from the party she represents..  If I were her, I would change affiliation.

oh, BTW this is the same democrat party  who  pressed  for the passage of legislation to protect pregnant women in the workplace. In that legislation and I quote:

"The new guidelines from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission make clear that any form of workplace discrimination or harassment against pregnant workers by employers is a form of sex discrimination and illegal."

Pelosi is arguing that voting by proxy for caucus leadership is against the rules, and not allowed, and if they do it for one person then everyone will want to do it. But, several aids in anonymity have come out and said...that may be so, but  the caucus is allowing three members whose Election Day races have not yet been called to be allowed to vote, as if they've won reelection already. But, here you have a woman, a decorated war veteran who is undergoing a high-risk pregnancy, and they can't suspend the rules," said one of the aides.

so can someone please tell me who exactly has the war on women?

A Navy Flashback for Friday..

Something Cool

This is something cool that an ole retired Navy Master Chief friend had on his facebook. My buddy OLD NFO likes to do a weekly post of different military posters. So I know this one would be right up his alley.

My dad and  uncle were a couple of guys like this. Dad was in during Korea, and had a saying : " I was in the Navy when Ships were wood and Men were Steel"

My Uncle was in the Navy during Nam and talks about his days along the Mekong Delta with lots of excitement. I guess despite all the politics surrounding the Vietnam War, he and his buddy's had fun and he has some good memories of camaraderie.

Senior's first 10 years in  the Navy was still fun but then during the second 10 years the PC crowd began to take over, and the good times like Chiefs Initiations and Shellback ceremonies  slowly began to fade and have become a shell of what they used to be. Soon I guess, they will be a thing of the past..... so sad  *Sigh*.

a history lesson

I saw on the local news last night that the Vietnam Traveling Wall would be on display in a couple of towns over from us. I asked Senior if we could take the boys.
So, after leaving a mega gun show we drove over to the park where the wall was on display.

Very reverent site....

First thing was the items on display..Guns that were used, sleeping bags, clothing. You see in movies where the guys would write stuff on the side of their helmets, I saw it for real today. 
I got a chuckle from the Vet who was explaining the AK-47 to someone, the Vet was all up in arms about how Russians were really good at stealing designs from other people, and that in fact it was not Kalashnikov that created the AK but it was in fact the Germans.

Then there was the Traveling Wall Memorial:



Notes and pictures were laid on the grass of troops who lived in the area and died. One such item was an ole toy gun. The soldiers sister had placed it there and wrote a note to her brother, and was remembering when they use to play "Cops and Robbers"   Oh Man, I got weepy eyed.

This man in the red shirt, was a tour guide He explained the panels to the crowd.. Somethings I did not know, was that the wall begins and ends in the middle. The names on the first  panel marked the deaths in the first five months of fighting...the next panels represents the next five weeks...and so on, until one single panel represents the mortality rate in a 5 day span.

We headed over to another trailer with memorabilia and another Vet took the boys under his wing and gave them a verbal history lesson. He told us the story of the youngest known Marine who died in Vietnam. I was intrigued by the story, and a part of me found it hard to believe, so I came home and researched it, and indeed it was true.
 His name was Dan Bullock, and when he was 14 he altered his birth certificate and enlisted In Sept. 1968.
He made it through boot camp and in May 1969 was assigned as a rifleman 2nd Squad, 2nd Platoon, Fox Company 2nd battalion 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He died June 1969 when his platoon came under small arms fire one night. He was only 15.

RIP PFC Bullock.

This kid remains on my mind this evening. To put it in perspective,  when he enlisted he was only 5 years older then our 9 year old son.  As I think about this Marine, I wonder if Obama had a son would he have looked like PFC Bullock? Probably not.
This boys life could have taken so many other turns, but he knew at such a young age that he wanted to be a Marine. He fought bravely and along with over 58,000 other brave Americans he died for his country. The portrait of a Great American.

Today in History

Today June 4th.  is the 72nd anniversary of the "Battle of Midway" 

The Americans and other allies decoded Japanese messages and were able to stop an ambush they were planning on the remaining American aircraft carriers that were not sunk at Pearl Harbor. They had hoped to take Midway Island so they could use it as a future launching area for attacks on the west coast of the United States.
 Only we stopped them and inflicted permanent damage upon the Japanese fleet that they never recovered from.

 The end result was 4 Japanese aircraft carriers sunk, the same ones used to launch planes for the Pearl attack. They also lost 322 planes, and a heavy cruiser, and over 5000 sailors.
For the United States we lost 147 aircraft and 300 sailors.
The Battle of Midway was a turning point in the pacific theatre for the allies, thus allowing our fleet to become the hunter instead of the hunted...

Yesterday We....

 

Took our boys and visited our local National Cemetery. The nation wide campaign for the wreath laying was done. And it was beautiful. We have a good friend buried here, and the dad of another friend is as well. When the time comes even my parents will be laid to rest here.

 

Except for a few workers, we were the only ones there.. Standing on this sacred ground it was quiet, and very serene. A person can experience lots of different emotions. All these good Americans that loved their country and fought to preserve its freedom. On the front of the head stone was the service member, and on the back was his or her spouse that had deceased.

 

As I stood there reading some of the stones, I remember the recent post by Sandy At Oklahoma Transient.. She posted the poem by LCDR Jeff Giles. If you get a chance go over and read it. But make sure you have a box of Kleenex.

Veterans Day: A True Story

We spent the past weekend up at the Country Estate. Knowing Veterans Day was coming up, Senior wanted to put American Flags on the graves of our family who had served, including his Dad.
So, yesterday I was a woman on a mission, searching high and low for  four small flags.
I was of the thinking that it was Veterans day, it would be a no brainer and every one out there would have them.

But, I soon found that idea to be very wrong. I am sad to say that not one of the stores I was in was recognizing the reason behind todays holiday.
Walmart did have flags, but only one the size I was looking for, and that was perched up high, I had to climb on the display to get it down. A snotty walmart employee looked at another shopper and said " She must be desperate for a flag"  I gave her  "The Look" .
I walked up to the check out, every one in front of me had carts full. A nice elderly lady in front of me, turned and smiled and asked if the small flag was all that I had. I said "yes ma'am" and she allowed me to go in front of her.
I thanked her repeatedly for her kindess. And it was then that she and I began a conversation about our Flag, and the countries veterans. I told her about how hard it had been for me to find a small flag and what it would be used for.

She then said to me :
" It was not until I saw you with the flag that I remembered tomorrow is Veterans Day.  I can remember how as a child, every thing shut down, people would line the streets for the local parade. Us girls got giggly over the boys in uniform, and I married a soldier who served in Korea. Our country has lost what our Flag means, and what our veterans sacrificed to keep America Free, Now this blame Obamacare is threatening the weak and elderly, If I get cancer, I will have no coverage, it is like they just want us to die. I don't recognize my country anymore, and tomorrow...it is a day to celebrate and thank our vets, and no one really remembers that anymore"
 She smiled remembering days gone by and then her eyes teared up.

I completely agreed with her,smiled and expressed my sentiments as well. The line started moving, and I told her to thank her husband for his service, She blessed me with a good day. I then thanked her for the conversation. And I was on my way.
It is always remarkable about the people you meet, You never know about them, or what insight they can bring you. I got in the truck, with my one little flag. I told Senior about the little elderly lady and our conversation. And then I knew I had to share it with all of you.

I Want to Thank all the Veterans for their service, And Thank You to the families for sacrificing your loved ones to fight for America, and to keep our Country free....

The Pill Pushers

While I write this post, please understand that I speak from experience, with Senior, and my father in law. Are or where under the care of Veterans Administration doctors. Senior was once stationed with another chief, who's wife was in an accident, she was prescribed hydrochodone, went back for more, then she soon learned it had street value and began to traffic it. She was so far gone and over the edge, she was facing jail time for the trafficking  to avoid that fate she chose to take her own life.

The rise in over medicating the nations veterans has surged nearly 270 % in the last 12 years.  Whenever you go to the VA for a medical problem, you get all kinds of thing prescribed to you. You walk through the door, tell the doc your problem, get examined, and "poof" you get a prescription of narcotics, with refills. Then begins the abuse. Then you go through your prescription , go back again, and "poof" another refill. Before the patient knows it, they are addicted.
Then it is realized that the first prescription is no longer affective, or the pain has worsened and "poof" you get something else stronger prescribed...Before you know it, you are on as much as 8 different pain killers all at the same time.  Going to the VA is like being a kid in a candy store.

You are depressed,  suicidal, you hallucinate, you can't sleep at night, but once you do fall asleep you will sleep until the late afternoon. Even worse is you are more confrontational and abusive towards family and friends.

Another fellow veteran friend of ours, was recently hospitalized. His wife demanded he go to a civilian hospital, it was learned that the VA had over prescribed his blood pressure medication and he nearly died.
The same was also the story for my father in law, after he did pass from heart failure, we learned just how much medication the VA had prescribed, and was still sending to his home.

All have the highest rate of narcotic/prescription drug abuse.

 If you know a Veteran who you believe is being over prescribed pain killers, and are possibly addicted to them then please talk to them. Encourage them to get help, Before they hurt themselves, or some innocent person.....

Day 3

It is Day 3 of the "Shutdown"...  the only issue with me on that subject, is that they closed the military commissaries.
  : (  
Senior and I might be making a road  trip out to the country butcher soon and filling up our freezer.

The other issue is Mitch McConnell asked for a Veterans Package to be put to a vote, and Harry Reid is "NO"  Okay Harry, who was it that fought and died to help  secure the freedoms of this country so that you can even become a Senator?  Oh that;s right..  Veterans and Active Duty.

All this because Washington claims we have no money. But ,we are still sending money around the world : 

500,000.000 in aid to the Palestinians
1.3 billion in tanks and F-16's to Egypt
Millions to Syrian Rebels

laying off 800,000 federal employees because we are broke...is PRICELESS

The local welfare recipients in my area are about to scream their heads off. One good thing about the shutdown is they have stopped the "head start" programs. It is like a freebie from the government that kids in low income areas can take advantage of after school.. Basically it s a glorified baby sitter funded by tax payers. Their fee lunch program has also been cut. That means Baby Mama actually has to get up, and fix her 8 kids by different daddies lunch. -- Funny!

More evidence of the "divide and conquer" strategy that is being carried out by Obama and Holder.
And more silence from " civil rights" leaders, like Sharpton and Jackson.
Thousands of senseless murders in this country and why are only a handful labeled "hate crimes" ?

Happy V-J Day

 

 

It was also the day that a young sailor named George Mendonsa grabbed Greta Zimmer-Friedman and planted this smooch on her.  Alfred Eisenstaedt snapped the iconic photo and it was published in Life Magazine.

Mendonsa was stationed on the "Sullivans" and had just returned from the war in the Pacific. He was happy he made it through and over joyed to be home. The nurses gave our troops such great care and love that he grabbed the first one he saw. He held her back, and gave her the kiss of a life time- 68 years ago today!   Over all these years they stayed in touch and have attended reunions together.

 

 Personally, I always loved this picture, I have always tried to imagine what that scene must have been like. Every one so happy, everyone so patriotic and proud to be an American..and every one with overwhelming pride and gratitude for our military.....

Memorial Day...

I ask this of my readers, on this Memorial Day To Whom Do You Honor?

Memorializing our nations hero's began during the Civil War when Southern ladies, put flowers and items of remembrance on both Confederate and Union Soldiers graves.
It was in 1868 that Commander in Chief, John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic issued General Order 11. He declared it to be for the purpose of decorating the graves of fallen soldiers who died defending their country during the Civil War.  That first Memorial Day Ceremony or "Decoration Day" as it was known then.Took place at Arlington National Ceremony with the placing of the wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldier. Graves throughout the cemetery were also decorated with small American Flags.
But some argue that the first memorial day actually took place with those good southern ladies a few years prior.

For many Americans the day involves parades and cookouts, It has also become known as the unofficial start of summer. The Indianapolis 500 has been traditionally ran on this weekend since 1911, and NASCAR jumped on board in 1961 with the running of the Coca-Cola 600 the same day.

But Again, I ask the question: "Whom do you honor on Memorial Day"?  For me its people like my Great Great Uncle who died in Germany during WW1. I also think of ancestors who perished during the Civil War, and all those who died in wars since. I think of Seal Team 6 on Memorial Day, who's helo went down and all on board perished. And I think of Hero's like "The Sullivan Brothers" who in WW11 were stationed together on board the USS JUNEAU..they died together when it was struck by a torpedo.  I think of all those Military members who perished in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and battles across the Pacific and Europe.
All these Americans were hero's. If not for them and thousands others...we wouldn't have the freedoms we do know. We owe them our lives. We owe them our respect and gratitude.
They Sacrificed so much so we could stay free... 

Happy for the Rain

I don't think I have never been more thankful to wake up to a rainy Saturday then I was today. All the things that were planned have been fortunately canceled. Two baseball games and babysitting a neighbors Two year old so they could go to a Submariners function..
Our family needed the little break from every thing. When Senior and I got the phone calls that games were cancelled, we rolled over at 7am and dozed back off.
Its a been a hard work week for us both, I helped Senior with a lot of work in the large community we maintain, and helped him with some residentials..okay so my edging skills are a bit wonky, but hey! Atleast I was out there trying which is more then some of these wives around me would have ever done.
His dad is now in a re-hab facility..such good news. But I think Senior will need to go back and forth a little more, so because of this we had to cancel our residential lawn customers.. Had several good elderly people I hate doing it to, but the added stress of taking care of old Mrs. Jones yard  was mounting up, and we had to make a decision.

You know most of our clients have been really understanding and loving about this decision..but there is always that one. One client got a little up tight with Senior...and thanked him for the "Short Notice", and now he has to go out and buy a lawn mower...  
If there is one thing I have learned while operating a customer service  based business is that there will always be that one client that you can never please. There will always be that one person in anything, that will be difficult.  It never fails.
It has always been my personal opinion that if you are a physically fit person, with all kinds of time on their hands, and weekends off...then there is no reason why you should need a lawn service company in the first place.
 One of our neighbors has the dad and a teenage son living at home..and they hire a company-- LAYYYZZZY!!!!

I would like to add  that I selectively deleted the "Suspect "Post from the other day. The wrong guys were mistaken for the Boston bombing. A lot of people believed they were the ones, and clearly they weren't. So, I did the right thing and took the post down.

PS:  My good buddy Matt has reminded me that the older brother was on the radar of the FBI..he was interviewed and "checked out"... assumed to be peaceful and living the American dream...well, we know that to be a much different story. And truely is the defination of what a "Sleeper Cell" is.
 So therefore, knowing agencies knew this guy was living among us, inserting himself in to society, does make me do anything but applaud . How does this make the residents of Boston feel? How does it makes the families of those killed feel knowing this information?  How about those that lost limbs, their lives forever scared but this tragedy? 

Veteran Charity Scam...

Allied Veterans Charity Scam

Have you heard about this? It happened here locally. Money that was generated and supposed to be donated to veterans, was stolen from them and went in to the pockets of lawyers, politicians, and union bosses.  Senior being the Senior Chief and Veteran he his, left a nice comment on one such union bosses facebook page... You can imagine its content. 

Our little town has one of their cafes, and I was excited when I first saw the signs that it was a place for veteran affairs. I had even thought once or twice about volunteering with the organization... good thing I didn't.
Our Lt. Governor has since resigned over the matter, she was once a consultant for the organization. She worked on the marketing for Allied Veterans and as a former naval officer and veteran she  had even been in a couple of commercials for them. It  shows me that this is a far reaching investigation and lots of people are going down for what they have done and for the money that was illegal taken from the brave men and women that sacrificed so much for their country.

When I hear things like this, it sickens me. Our veterans and active duty are all ready getting a royal screw job by this government, now you add this in to the mix...just infuriates me.

Military Health Care Cuts

  Our men and women raised their hands and pledged an oath to this country. To honor it and defend it. For decades they have done their jobs, and now because our government can not pay its bills, they want to cut health care benefits to our active duty and retired personnel... BUT, the unionized DoD is not affected...WTF!!!!

A few years ago, when Senior was still active, and I regularly used the base clinic and pharmacy. I heard some thing similar to this from a Pharm. Tech Behind the counter. What he told me was that it was being proposed that Active Duty would have to start paying a co-pay for prescriptions. I looked at him like he was smoking crack..no way would they do that to our guys..

 Do you know the impact of something like this could have on a active duty family? let me be the first to tell you, a E1-E5 pretty much makes beans!.  I remember how hard it was for Senior and I when he was a Second Class, that was in the 90s before kids. I can only imagine now. We lived paycheck to paycheck, and that was with me working. We .did not start seeing a change until he made E6, but it got much better when he made E7.

Therefore this is going to financially hurt a lot of military families who do not deserve being slapped in the face for their sacrifice to country. He is dismantling our military to a point of where we won't have one anymore. Absolutely criminal.

Stolen Valor and The Supreme Court

Seniors Medals--Who did EARN the right to wear them!

Ahead of the decision on Obamacare the SCOTUS also ruled on a case involving "Stolen Valor" some of you may have heard about this, some you not. It was in no way a news headline, but yet it did indeed make its way through the highest court of liberals in the land.

Senior and I both are seething and dissappointed over the courts decision..  The case first started with a man named Xavier Alvarez from Los Angeles, who claimed he not only served in the Marines but was a Medal of Honor Reciepient. When in fact he had never served. For his lie he was discharged from his position with the Three Valley Water District out in L.A.  and hac to serve probabtion. So, to make long story short, this one case made it all the way to SCOTUS and they actually ruled in favor by a 6-3 vote. So now lieing about military service, and medals, is legal and protected under the 1st Amendment of our Constitution.

The court did agree that Alvarez was pathetic and and his comments contemptable but, is guarenteed under the 1st Amendments right of free speech.  I do beg to differ with the court..We do not have the right of free speech in this country..You do not have the right to enter a crowded room and shout "Fire". Radio show host can not freely drop the "F-Bomb", You can not make threats, or commit libal and defammation of others..And in many states you can now actually be fired for making statements as a private citizen about your employer..so therefore we do not have the right of free speech in this country.

This ruling is a degredation to those who did serve and earned their medals. And it devaluates the sanctity of being awarded medals for your military service. You are not just "presented" a medal, you have to go through a lot to receive one, and for a person who never served and did not do anything to earn them is a real slap in the face to those who have. And Senior and I both should know..he did 20 years in our Navy and has many medals to show for his hard work and dedication to the service.

If an active duty member  wears a medal they did not earn  they will face punishment under the  Uniform Code of Military Justice....so why should it be legal for some private citizen to be able to walk in to some sleaze bag  pawn shop or military surplus store and buy them..its just an absolute outrage.

All ready there is new legislation being presented to Congress to Amend the Stolen Valor Act. The bill would make it a crime to lie about military honors if there was an intent to gain material benefit.
But still the fact remains that somebody is allowed to lie about receiving awards they did not receive in service to their country. Falsely claiming that you bled for your country or received any award you did not earn is a disgrace.
