| Seniors Medals--Who did EARN the right to wear them! |
Senior and I both are seething and dissappointed over the courts decision.. The case first started with a man named Xavier Alvarez from Los Angeles, who claimed he not only served in the Marines but was a Medal of Honor Reciepient. When in fact he had never served. For his lie he was discharged from his position with the Three Valley Water District out in L.A. and hac to serve probabtion. So, to make long story short, this one case made it all the way to SCOTUS and they actually ruled in favor by a 6-3 vote. So now lieing about military service, and medals, is legal and protected under the 1st Amendment of our Constitution.
The court did agree that Alvarez was pathetic and and his comments contemptable but, is guarenteed under the 1st Amendments right of free speech. I do beg to differ with the court..We do not have the right of free speech in this country..You do not have the right to enter a crowded room and shout "Fire". Radio show host can not freely drop the "F-Bomb", You can not make threats, or commit libal and defammation of others..And in many states you can now actually be fired for making statements as a private citizen about your employer..so therefore we do not have the right of free speech in this country.
This ruling is a degredation to those who did serve and earned their medals. And it devaluates the sanctity of being awarded medals for your military service. You are not just "presented" a medal, you have to go through a lot to receive one, and for a person who never served and did not do anything to earn them is a real slap in the face to those who have. And Senior and I both should know..he did 20 years in our Navy and has many medals to show for his hard work and dedication to the service.
If an active duty member wears a medal they did not earn they will face punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice....so why should it be legal for some private citizen to be able to walk in to some sleaze bag pawn shop or military surplus store and buy them..its just an absolute outrage.
All ready there is new legislation being presented to Congress to Amend the Stolen Valor Act. The bill would make it a crime to lie about military honors if there was an intent to gain material benefit.
But still the fact remains that somebody is allowed to lie about receiving awards they did not receive in service to their country. Falsely claiming that you bled for your country or received any award you did not earn is a disgrace.
But Martha Stewart went to prison for lying to Congress and that Baseball Player just barely got off the hook because he was accused of lying to Congress.
ReplyDeleteEric Holder continues to lie to Congress and will never be imprisoned for that.
So the Moral of this story is twofold.
1) If you are a member of the Elite Ruling Class you can lie and to ANYONE you want to.
2) As long as you aren't lying to a government official you can lie to anyone else you want to.
What a sorry country this has turned into.
Heaven help you people who have kids and are trying to teach them right from wrong these days.

DeleteDisgraceful does not equal illegal. If we started throwing people in jail for being disgraceful and for lying, I fear that our jails would fill up quite rapidly. Starting with the moron at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Now, if they try to gain advantage in employment, benefits, or other services, then yes, a crime has been committed. But, it is not a crime to be a douchenozzle.
ReplyDeleteIf it is a crime to impersonate, and claim you are a police officer, then why shouldnt it be if a person is impersonating and claiming military service?
DeleteRemember the original reason this even went to the SCOTUS was because a man did just that, and was put on probation, paid a fine and had to do community service...however he challanged it and the SCOTUS ruled in his favor.
and FYI: Lying under no reason is not acceptable and it is something Senior and I are teaching our children not to do..sad display in this country when people think its okay.
Anonymous @ 1308 (for us military types) - I agree with Senior's better half - and it sorta sounds like you do in a way as well. Didn't the current 'resident' of OUR White House use "being disgraceful and for lying." tactics to get himself there - as in "try to gain advantage in employment, benefits, or other services" in order to get where he is? He still has not been properly vetted in most of our opinions, would he be where he is if he had been? I sure don't know.

Well Said Master Chief--Thank you for your 30 years Service to our great country. And yes, if someone decided they want to impersonate an admiral, then laws should be in place to prevent that.
DeleteMilitary laws are in place for active members to not wear medals they did not deserve, and so it should be for the civilian sector.
This has been a problem for a while now and is a disgrace. Unfortunately you can buy any medals online but there are veterans groups out there who go after these imposters and publicly shame them.

DeleteI agree that is is wrong, wrong, wrong, but the law was poorly written and I agree that it was not constitutional the way it was written. I do not want to limit the First Amendment rights of people just because some are disgusting and disgraceful.

Now understand this, I am in my mess, i will speak my mind, sorry hunny. WHO THE F*#& do you think you are wearing something you didnt Fuc"'&* earn. AHH better now. Let me make my point Crystal clear!!! Wear a military decoration you didnt earn in front of me, i will leave it to the readers imagination. Guys, let them know, TRY ME!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMASTER CHIEF, sorry but i have to explain what the mess is to everyone. It is a place where the smartest people on the ship live. We are the most respected saliors on the ship, even the CO knocks 3 times, requests permission to enter, and states his business. Best of all, we earned out titles and our medals, the HARD WAY!!!!!!!
