our memorial day....

For Memorial Day...we let the kids play hookie. Yes our commie school district does not recognize the sacrifice that was made to keep our country free. School was in session today as well as Veterans Day. Really irks me because MLK and other insignificant days are given off. ,

So, we kept the boys home today and went to the cemetery to put flags on those that once served this country. Buried here is my Father in Law who served in Korea, and his brother..a highly decorated Marine that did three tours in Vietnam, when asked to go back for a fourth tour, he was denied.

Just our small way of teaching our children what this day means and honoring those who sacrificed so much.

Its just been busy.....

I know its been a while, but we are all fine on our end.. And I really hope you all as well. I have been making my way around blogger and even though I might not have always commented, I am keeping up with you guys.
 Its Just that time of the year and we have been busy with baseball, School, garden, chickens, and Senior's job. And when we do have a bit of free time (which is usually in the evenings) we retire to the front porch. Heck! we have hardly had the TV on at night during the past few weeks.

We did however manage a trip down to FLA to visit the parents, and then made an abrupt right turn off 95 and took the boys over to "Patriots Point" in Charleston. If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend it , there they have the USS YORKTOWN, SSN CLAGAMORE, and USS LAFFEY. Just make sure you wear a comfortable pair of shoes, because you are up and down all these WWll ships.

Our boys were so excited, they both like to do models, and were thrilled to see some of the planes they have completed on a much larger scale:

I have seen this picture of this convoy before at NAS Pensacola and have always admired it. Just looks so darn awesome:

 

 

 



I had a stow-away

I heard the un-natural vibration late last week. I informed Senior the same day, he turned on my A/C and heard the same vibration. Being that my car is an 07 we figured due to  the age of the car that the bearings in the fan blower had gone bad and on Saturday ordered a new one from Toyota. The weather here has been really cool, and for the past couple of days I have not needed the A/C...

 

However, on my way to the dealership to pick the new part, that is when the Un-Godly smell hit. Senior got home from work and opened up the glove box, pulled out the blower..and found a little passenger...  

 

 Welp sure sucks to be him...

garden and things.,..

Spring has kept us busy here at the ole estate. Now that it is in full swing everything is coming to life around here.

 

Garden is plowed and planted and seeds are starting to sprout. We have a pretty large deer population, so my Uncle told me to put soap on a rope around the garden perimeter, deer will catch the scent and think a human is nearby and stay out.....

 

I was a tad skeptical at first, but so far, the little soap on a rope trick seems to be working..This is a sunflower and corn popping up.



 

 My fellow Angel SANDY sent some heirloom cucumber seeds, boys planted them and now they have sprouted nicely. I also picked up some heirloom tomato seeds and got them started, few more days I will get them into the garden.

We went through a lengthy dry spell, but this past week Mother Nature as turned on her faucet, and everything is wet again..with more rain tonight and Sunday is supposed to be a complete wash out..then it looks like another stretch of nice weather for us.

much to the dismay of some, I am still here..sorry to disappoint!

Now with Spring in full gear we have tons to do around the estate. Garden has been plowed and planted. Baby chicks are growing, and I have since acquired a baby "Jersey Giant" Rooster. I googled them..they get up to 15 pounds.  Senior is in the planning stage of building another coop for him and the black austrolops we got a few weeks ago.

With the start of spring, that also means "baseball". We got lucky and both boys were placed on the same team. Practice started this week, and so far all the kids look really good and ready to play.

Well that is kind of the news for now..  Like I said, it is Spring, and we are all busy, busy busy. So don't fret over my lack of post...afterall I can't be like some folks who sit in front the monitor in their tightie whities hitting the "refresh" button 24/7 while chasing prescription drugs with a bottle of Mad Dog 20/20  and dreaming of a blissful three cherries on the local slot machine...wouldn't that be the life!

end of week stuff

With Senior seemingly working 1,000 per week, things around the estate for me have been a bit busy. Finally the weather here has turned warmer, and no rain since Thursday. It is nice to have everything dry out.

I went out to the coop on Friday and one of my Golden Sex Links jumped up beside me. I did not think anything of it until .I saw her back ( warning picture is gruesome) My dominate Rhode Island Red Hen, jumped on her, and once blood was drawn it was a coop frenzy. I gently picked her up, flushed her back with warm water, and gently rubbed some antibiotics in to it. Then I placed her in isolation to heal.
As for the Red, well she went in to chicken jail for a bit, and now is listed for sale on craigslist.

I have always thought that birds were decedents of dinosaurs, and now I am a firm believer..

 Senior was at work all day yesterday so the boys and I got out in the yard, and took advantage of the beautiful day. First it was planting some spring seeds. my buddy Sandy sent us some sunflowers, and the boys wanted to start a batch. I like harvesting them for bird seed and roasting....

There was a nice steady breeze so after planting seeds we did some kite flying. NW got this one with money my sister had sent him...

Later in the afternoon Senior came home, and wanted to go get a new tractor battery for his dads ole farm-all. This trip took us in to Tractor Supply..We went in for a battery and some tomato seeds, and came out with 6 new Black Austrolop Chicks....never did get the battery or seeds....lol
I guess Senior will need to build a new addition to the coop...

Did remember to turn clocks forward last night, and now I am feeling it...really do hate these silly time changes. God has blessed with more beautiful weather today, Senior is off and I hope we get out and take advantage of it. Happy Sunday !!!
