They went home yesterday in our school district. Our boys, did well this first semester. Lots of A's, B's and Excellants. Senior and I are very proud.
But we did find it funny, that for all the hard work the school gave rewards in the shape of free fast food coupons.For Citizenship they get a free hamburger from McDonald's. And for being a "Supreme Student" they got a free taco coupon from Taco Bell.
"Okay, stop right there" I thought ,They are giving away fast food coupons. NO WAY !
But, doesn't that go against the whole Michelle Obama and the government food initiative to stop obesity?
Didn't she preach that all this junk food causes obesity in children? She worked single handily to change government laws, and fast food and school cafeteria menus. San Francisco went as far as to outlaw toys in kids "Happy Meals". Geez..whats the fun in that? One of our kids biggest thrills is getting a McDonald's happy meal once in a while.
Unless you have school age kids, you probably didn't know it was even going on. It still amazes me how one person who is not a politician, could have so much persuasion and get so much passed. Its kind of like Michelle said "Jump" and Washington said "How High" ?
But, she hasn't stopped with just school lunches, now she is moving on to the sacred mess halls of the military..Okay I was a Navy wife for 17 + years, and I can testify that it wouldn't hurt a few folks in uniform to eat better, but C'Mon Man! Enough all ready. It isn't the Obamas business what we eat or what we do or don't feed our kids.
Well, I can say in response that I am Thankful for our local school system,they are still allowing kids to be kids, and have fun being rewarded for good grades and citizenship. It makes me feel that there are folks out there that don't mind giving Washington the proverbial finger once in a while....
If word of these reward coupons get back to Moochele, she would definately put a stop to it. Those people want to control every aspect of all of our lives. After all, they are so intellectually superior to us they know what is best for us.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know, during these debates- can't you just see the smugness and contempt on Obamas face, like he just knows he is so much higher then everyone else? I am sure, if word did get back to washington somehow, in someway--she would try to put a stop to it.

DeleteOh my gosh, I love this post. The schools are insane. Our school will have a fitness day you kn ow cuz pres wife thinks it is a good idea and then after the run they serve doughnuts, soda and the prize is always a coupon to either ice cream or pizza. I don't care, but it kind of doesn't make sense now does it?
ReplyDeleteOur school did something similiar last year. It was the annual "jump rope for heart". after the kids were all done they had a pizza party. Then there is always the yearly Krispy Kreme Doughnut fundraiser.. But yet the schools can take away a kindergartners lunch her mom packed for saying it is not nutrious enough...GO FIGURE!
DeleteP.S. I hate fast food. Could go my whole life and never eat it, except Taco Bell. Give me a soy processed spoon full of what is suppose to resemble meat in a tortilla with a slather of white goo and I am in heaven.

ReplyDeleteI was working for Taco Bell many years ago, meat is never frozen 80-20 ground beef. When you're cooking beef take the fat out and throw it away. There were no freezers in the stores. The raw pinto beans were cooked in the stores, beans, water, lard and salt. Wendy's meat is never frozen 80-20 ground beef 20lb bags.
